Location of the municipality of Nienwohld in the Stormarn district

Nienwohld ( Low German Nienwoold ) is a municipality in the Stormarn district in Schleswig-Holstein .

geography

The district of Nienwohldrögen belongs to the community . Nienwohld is about eight kilometers northwest of Bargteheide . The old Alster flows through the community.

history

In 1256 the community was first mentioned as Nova Silva . The name means new forest .

When the Alster-Trave Canal, a direct Kiel Canal, was completed in 1529, it ran through the Nienwohld district along the village of Nienwohld.

Until 2005 , the organization Youth for Understanding maintained a training center for prospective exchange students and foreign students who spent their exchange year in Germany in the former restaurant of the town .

Since the local elections in 2008, the WGN electoral community has all nine municipal council seats and thus also provides the mayor.

Culture and sights

The lying on the surface of the municipality bog Nienwohlder Moor stands since 1982 under nature protection. In this moorland there are again many different types of dragonflies, the curlew, the snipe, the golden plover, the short-eared owl, as well as the crane, sea eagle and common gull.
