geography

Steinburg is located south of Bad Oldesloe and northeast of Hamburg . It consists of the districts of Eichede , Mollhagen and Sprenge .

history

The district of Eichede was first mentioned in a document in 1259. Eichede was secularly part of the Trittau office of the Gottorfische . The village belonged - like Mollhagen and Sprenge - to the 17 wooden villages . With the introduction of the Prussian municipal constitution in 1889, Eichede became the seat of the district of the same name . In 1948, after the administrative districts were dissolved, the village became the new Mollhagen office , and in 1974 the Bad Oldesloe-Land office . In 1978 Eichede became part of the new Steinburg community. The place has about 600 inhabitants.

Steinburg was created on January 1, 1978 through the merger of the previously independent communities of Eichede, Mollhagen and Sprenge. The name of the newly created community comes from the Steinburg forest district, to which the three current districts border.
