Edith Nothdorf

Edith Nothdorf (born January 6, 1934 in Riga ; † August 25, 2009 in Bargteheide ) was a German music teacher , author and composer .

Live and act

Edith Nothdorf studied opera singing, piano and music education with Anni Eisträger, Elisabeth Lange and Hans Rentzow at the Schwerin State Conservatory from 1952 to 1956. After engagements in the Greifswald and Rostock theaters as well as the Wuppertal Puppenbühne, she was a private music teacher for piano and voice in Bargteheide. She was a founding member of the Kulturring Bargteheide e. V. Here she set up early musical education on behalf of the city of Bargteheide and developed the teaching model "Singing and playing for children", which was published in 1984 by Georg Kallmeyer and from 1993 on Edition Eres.

She composed children's songs, some of which in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig with the Radio Children's Choir Leipzig by Hans Sand and Gunter Berger were first performed. She also wrote musical fairy tales and children's musicals, which were performed in different locations and in different versions. In the "Northeast German Music Working Group" she was director of the children's studio.

From 1989 she conducted seminars for German and music teachers as well as for kindergarten teachers and students at various educational colleges in the former Soviet Union. B. in Alma-Ata, Moscow, Omsk, Slavgorod and Saratov. She also held further training seminars for special school teachers in disabled pedagogy and at special schools at the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Institute for schools and training.

The textbook on early musical education “Singing and Playing for Children” and the songbook “When the hedgehogs go to sleep” have been translated into Russian and Latvian.

For the 40th anniversary of early musical education, this institution officially received the name of its founder and long-term director. It is now called "Edith Nothdorf Municipal Music School - Early Musical Education".
