Gunter Berger (conductor)
Gunter Berger (* 1962 in Greifswald ) is a German conductor and choir director .
Life
Gunter Berger studied school music at the Liszt School of Music Weimar and orchestral conducting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music in Leipzig .
Since 1990 he has been working in choral music. From 1990 to 2011 Berger directed the MDR children's choir . From 1990 to 1998 he was assistant to the Gewandhaus choir director Ekkehart Schreiber and led the Leipzig Gewandhaus Choir ad interim from 1998/1999 . He has also been leading the Leipzig Teachers Choir since March 1999 and the Leipzig Oratorio Choir and the Dresden Philharmonic Choirs since 2012 .
From 2009 to 2012 Gunter Berger was professor for choir and ensemble conducting at the Liszt School of Music Weimar and directed the university choir there.
Berger is a member of the Music Council of the German Choir Association .
