German Choir Association

The German Choir Association (DCV) was founded on February 28, 2005 as a merger of the German Singing Association and the German General Singing Association. It unites 1.4 million members in around 21,000 choirs as well as instrumental and dance groups affiliated with choirs in Germany and abroad, making it the world's largest association of amateur choirs.

After the German Singers' Association (DSB) and the German Singers' Association (DAS) decided to merge at their Singers' Days on February 26 and 27, 2005, the new association was founded on February 28. At the constituent assembly meeting on May 7th in Magdeburg , Henning Scherf , at that time Bremen's mayor , was elected as the new president.

The German Choir Youth , the independent youth organization in the German Choir Association , has existed since 1995 . The large number of member associations, the majority of which are state associations, is related to the unification of the German Singers 'Association and the German General Singers' Association, which was carried out in 2005, with the individual member associations remaining. In particular, since then there have been many regional associations that are responsible for the same areas, such as B. Hessian Choir Association and Hessian Singers Association.

On February 24, 2018 Christian Wulff was elected President of the German Choir Association DCV; he succeeded Henning Scherf .

German Choir Festival

Since 2008, the association has organized the national German Choir Festival , which lasts several days, in changing cities every four years . The motto is always the city name in connection with "is all choir".

For the first time, the choir festival took place from May 22nd to 25th, 2008 in Bremen with more than 200 German and international choirs of all genres and more than 7000 participants. In addition to a choir competition, u. a. a night of choirs , 400 concerts with the choirs present and a sing-along concert in which Federal President Horst Köhler took part. A national choir festival of the German Choir Association is to take place every four years in the future.

The 2012 Choir Festival took place from June 7th to 10th, 2012 in Frankfurt am Main . According to the German Choir Association, almost 500 choirs met with over 20,000 singers. The high point of the opening ceremony was the participation of the a cappella band Wise Guys . Following the example of 2008, there was again an international choir competition, which was the focus of the event. There was also a choir night and a sing-along concert. To promote social engagement, the participating choirs were encouraged to sing in social institutions in 2012.

The third German Choir Festival took place in Stuttgart from May 26 to 29, 2016 . The a cappella band Füenf performed at the opening event .

The choir festival in Leipzig planned for spring 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Since 2011, the association has organized the biennial industry meeting chor.com . In addition to a trade fair on the subject of choirs, workshops for choir directors and concerts are offered. Until 2017, the event was held in the Westfalenhallen convention center and other venues in Dortmund . From September 12 to 15, 2019, the event took place for the first time in the UNESCO City of Music Hanover .

The "FELIX" badge

The association awards the “FELIX” seal of approval to day-care centers , especially kindergartens , where children play and sing a lot. In 2012, the changeover to the redesigned Die Carusos program began .
