from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swabian Choir Association e. V. is an umbrella organization for the care of choral singing. Its seat is Stuttgart .

history

Appointment of the Stuttgart collegiate church organist Konrad Kocher as an honorary member, 1871

On November 25, 1849, 27 singers' associations from Württemberg held a meeting in Göppingen to discuss the future of the singing festivals. The most important decision was:

"The wreaths of songs from Swabia unite to jointly cultivate folk song and thus popular education and a German spirit to form a general Swabian choir."

At the meeting on November 24, 1850, the statutes were established and the Swabian Singers' Association (SSB) was founded. Until then, 58 associations were members.

During the First World War, up to 70 percent of the choir singers were called up. Therefore, singing was often not possible. During the Weimar Republic, the number of members increased again and so the introduction of Gauen as a sub-organization was necessary. In the course of the Gleichschaltung, the Swabian Singers' Association had to submit to the Nazi regime in 1933 . After the Singers 'Association was dissolved by the Allies after the Second World War, three new singers' associations were founded in Württemberg. The Swabian Singers Association and the Singers Association of South Württemberg-Hohenzollern merged in 1952 to form the Swabian Singers Association 1849 e. V. together, the Baden-Württemberg Singers' Association is still independent today.

In the years that followed, the SSB grew to become the second largest amateur choir association in Germany in 1849. The Federal Assembly in 2008 decided to change the name to Schwäbischer Chorverband e. V.

The association is a founding member of the Landesmusikverband Baden-Württemberg e.
