The New Lübeck North German cooperative eG is one of the largest housing associations in Germany . It owns 15,453 apartments in Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It deals with the construction, rental, maintenance and modernization of its own residential buildings .
history
It was founded on November 14, 1949 in Lübeck . On April 1, 1951, 155 families and on July 1, 1951 another 56 families were able to move into apartments in the Philosophenviertel in Lübeck.
In the 1960s, the Neue Lübecker merged with other building cooperatives from the surrounding area in Schleswig-Holstein and restricted new building activities due to rising construction costs.
The oil crisis in 1973 triggered the first major wave of modernization. The facades of the houses were given continuous thermal insulation , plastic windows and new heating systems. In 1978, Neue Lübecker owned more than 10,000 apartments for the first time.
In the 1980s, Neue Lübecker countered the lack of small and inexpensive apartments with renovations. Large and difficult to rent apartments were divided into several smaller units. In November 1986 another merger with the non-profit housing cooperative Elbmarsch eG followed. As a result, the Elmshorn location was significantly expanded.
In the decade when the border opened, there was a real run on West German apartments. In 1991 Neue Lübecker expanded to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and merged with housing companies based there , such as "AWG-Aufbau", other " workers' housing cooperatives " and the "housing cooperative Schwerin-West eG". From 1993 some of the newly acquired houses had to be sold again due to the old debt relief law. It was preferably acquired by the tenants. For the company's 50th anniversary, the building cooperative moved into new premises.
In the new millennium, the commitment in Hamburg, Hamburg's "peripheral areas" and other locations was strengthened through acquisitions or new buildings. At the beginning of 2012, Neue Lübecker is represented with its apartments in over 36 locations and is expanding its business area to Hamburg. A new building project is currently being built there on Luruper Hauptstrasse. The new building area is located on the former site of Hermes Schleifmittel GmbH.
