Grave and cemetery chapel "Vox coelestis" in Ehringsdorf (Weimar)

The “Vox coelestis” capella is a cemetery and burial chapel on the Ehringsdorf cemetery in Weimar and was built in 1899 on the initiative of the district councilor and brewery owner Richard Heydenreich and inaugurated the following year. The so-called Heydenreich's grave chapel has been used by the Vox coelestis association as a spiritual and cultural center since 2004 .

The chapel shows an eclectic style typical of the time , in which elements of Art Nouveau and historicism (Neo-Byzantinism) mix.

The listed building had not been used since 1960. In August 2004 the association Vox coelestis acquired it from the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Oberweimar / Ehringsdorf. The association, which was co-founded and led by Wolf-Günter Leidel from the Liszt School of Music and headquartered in Weimar, is dedicated to the maintenance and dissemination of late romantic music and the preservation of church organs . He uses the chapel and its outbuildings for club events, concerts, exhibitions, lectures and the like and makes them available for weddings and other occasions, including the mourning café "Über der Sorge", an outpatient hospice service facility in Weimar.
