The New Faces Award ( English for "New Faces Prize") is a prize for young talent that has been awarded by the German weekly magazine Bunte since 1998 . The magazine belongs to Hubert Burda Media . Every year, promising talents from the fields of film (“New Faces Award Film”) and fashion (“New Faces Award Style”) are honored. Some categories are endowed with prize money of 10,000 euros, the winners receive a trophy in the form of a red panther made of Plexiglas .

The award was initiated by Patricia Riekel , then editor-in-chief of Bunte, and Philipp Welte , then managing director of the Burda People Group . Conceived as a “little brother” to the renowned Bambi media prize , the New Faces Award was intended to draw attention to young talent, “whose performance promises a successful future”. The first award ceremony took place in November 1998 in Cologne's Balloni-Hallen in front of 600 guests. A jury of eleven experts selected a winner from ten television presenters. The first winner of the award was Eve-Maren Büchner, presenter of the Sat.1 magazine Blitzlicht. As a result, prizes in the categories of film, television, music and sport should be honored annually at separate awards ceremonies in Hamburg , Berlin and Munich . An award ceremony in the sports category never took place, and the gala for talented musicians was discontinued after a few years. The film category now also takes into account the performance of television actors.
New Faces Award Film
For the first time, the New Faces Award Film was awarded by a jury of experts on June 16, 1999 in the Estrel Festival Center in Berlin . The first prize winner was Cosma Shiva Hagen, then 18 years old . Since then, the award ceremony has taken place in different locations in Berlin, always one day before the award of the German Film Prize . In 2006 the award was presented for the first time in cooperation with the German Film Academy . From 2002 onwards, the undoped Young Actor Prize was chosen separately by gender in a multi-week public vote by the readers of Bunte magazine. Since 2009, an expert jury has again decided on the award, which as a rule comprises eight to nine members. Acting performances in TV productions have also been taken into account since 2007.
Since 2002, a New Faces Award has been given for the best debut film by a director . Since 2004 this award has been endowed with prize money of 10,000 euros. Furthermore, special prizes are awarded sporadically. The last award ceremony took place on April 27, 2017 in Haus Ungarn in Berlin.

New Faces Award Style
A promotional award for fashion was first awarded in February 2000 in the Düsseldorf Capitol Theater under the title New Faces Award Fashion . Since 2002, the award ceremony has been held at the Düsseldorf fashion fair Collection Première Düsseldorf (CPD for short) organized by Igedo . Independent up-and-coming designers who work on drafts for their own label are awarded by a jury of experts. The prize for the best fashion label is endowed with 10,000 euros. The designer Sascha Gaugel was twice successful (2004 and 2007).
Awards for fashion accessories and the best German fashion label abroad followed in 2010 . In 2011, an award for the “best shoe design” was initiated in cooperation with the shoe retail chain Reno . The winner received a prize of 5,000 euros while his design went into production and was sold in the company's branches.

"The Face - The most exciting face of the year"
Between 2005 and 2007, Bunte readers voted for the best model ("The Face - The most exciting face of the year") in an audience vote. In 2005, 21-year-old Hartje Andresen from Hamburg prevailed against Charlott Codes (16), Sarah Honne (20), May Gil (17) and Corinna Drengk (20), who also came from Hamburg. In 2006, 19-year-old Antonia Trettel won against Franziska Rex (15), Sina Weichbrodt (19), Jana Flötotto (20) and Ulrike Theusner (22). The last election was won by 19-year-old Isabel Neumair against Toni Garrn (15) and Franziska Frank (17).
"Trendsetter of the year"
In 2002, there were one-time, undoped categories for the “Trendsetter of the Year” public vote. In the women’s category, Indira Weis , singer of the band Bro'Sis, prevailed against her colleague Yvonne Catterfeld , the presenters Collien Fernandes and Milka Loff Fernandes and the model Marcella Siegel. In the men's category, the moderator Tobi Schlegl won against the singer Ben , the moderator Markus Schultze , the director and producer Ben Tewaag and the actor Max von Thun .

Music (1999-2004)
The "New Faces Award Music" was first, in March 1999, around the time of the prestigious Echo award , in the ancient Circus Hall in Hamburg's Hagenbeck Zoo held before 1500 guests. An eleven-member jury selected the winner from ten nominees, who did not rely on economic success, but on talented young artists who should have the "courage to be unusually creative" . At the second award ceremony, the prize was awarded jointly with Werner Hay , then chairman of the German Phono Academy .
After the prize was not awarded between 2001 and 2002, the readers of Bunte decided in 2003 and 2004 about the award in the categories solo singer and band. The award was presented in Düsseldorf as part of the “New Faces Night” together with the fashion award.

Television (1998-2002)
After the first presentation of the New Faces Award for television presenters, another “New Faces Award” ceremony for television professionals (actors and presenters) took place separately in Munich in 2002 . Since the mid-2000s, performances by television actors have also been taken into account in the New Faces Award Film.
