action

Lars lives with his father Henrik in a small village in the Uckermark . Christmas is coming. Since they are new to the area and don't know anyone, the two are generally ignored. The relationship between father and son is also characterized by speechlessness.

For Christmas, Lars is supposed to visit his mother Brigitte in Berlin . At the train station, however, he meets Marie, who takes him to a Christmas party in town, so that Lars misses his train.

Back home, Lars meets his aunt Jana by surprise. The relationship between her and his father Henrik is obvious. When he reacts aggressively and negatively to Lars' presence, Lars feels superfluous and meets again with his new acquaintance Marie.

On Christmas Eve itself, Lars' mother from Berlin stands in front of the door with her lover without prior notice: The family chaos seems perfect ...

Reviews

The film was largely received positively by film critics. The actors Constantin von Jascheroff and Josef Hader were often praised .

“How subtly and sensitively different family models are explored here, how intimately and yet discreetly the burgeoning love between Lars and Marie is shown is astonishing in a debut film. Here the director owes a lot to a very strong ensemble, right down to the supporting roles: in the lead role, the "false confessor" Constantin von Jascheroff acts as a cathartic filter with film father Josef Hader as the taciturn, vital antipole that gives the film the necessary grounding. But Ulrike Krumbiegel and Judith Engel also master the balancing act between suppressed grief and anger and actionistic cheerfulness with great intensity in the sisterly role battle for husband, child and life concept. “Dysfunctional families in the snow-white wasteland of the Uckermark in the desperate search for support and security - with this premise one can hardly believe that“ hunting dogs ”are so funny and sharp-tongued for all their inherent tragedy. As in the Brenner films, Josef Hader plays a taciturn sarcastic, which here only looks sadder and is in an unhappy relationship with his wife's sister, while his son surprisingly spends Christmas with him.
