Philipp Patrick Hannes Plein (born February 16, 1978 in Munich ) is a German fashion designer . He is the founder of the Philipp Plein International Group with the brands Philipp Plein , Plein Sport and Billionaire .

Career

After graduating from the Schloss Salem School , Plein studied law and began designing furniture . In 1998 he founded International AG in Munich. Today it is based in Lugano , Switzerland .

Plein began making bags and accessories from leftover exotic leathers that were sold at trade shows along with his design pieces. In 2003 he was asked to design a lounge for Moët & Chandon at the German trade fair CPD Düsseldorf , where Plein also sold his accessories. The fashion brand that bears his name was founded in 2004.

Companies

Plein's first collections were vintage military jackets , which he embroidered with Swarovski skulls and sold at Maison et Objet in Paris . The accessories line was introduced in 2006 and the “Couture” collection was launched in 2008.

In 2008 Philipp Plein exhibited his heavy metal collection in the casting show Germany’s Next Topmodel . In 2009 he worked with Mattel and presented a Philipp Plein Barbie doll for Barbie's 50th birthday party at the Nuremberg Toy Fair . In the same year the first store opened in Monte Carlo and the first commercial showroom opened in Milan .

In 2010 Plein boutiques opened in Vienna , Moscow , Saint-Tropez , Cannes and Kitzbühel in addition to the opening of an exhibition space in Düsseldorf in the same year. The fashion show of the spring / summer collection of 2011 debuted in September at Milan Fashion Week and took place in a secular church building from the 16th century.

Mischa Barton was selected for the Fall / Winter 2010 season and Lindsay Lohan was the face of the Spring / Summer 2012 campaign. In 2011, boutiques opened in Forte dei Marmi and Düsseldorf as well as a showroom in Hong Kong . The Fall / Winter women's fashion show for the 2011 season began with an orchestral performance , with DJ Peaches Geldof playing at the after party.

In 2012 ten boutiques were opened in Marbella , Moscow, Baku , Milan, Dubai , Saint Petersburg , Seoul , Macau , Amsterdam and Berlin . In the same year, Plein signed an agreement with the AS Roma soccer club to dress the team players for four subsequent seasons from the 2012/13 season. 2013 saw the opening of branches in Porto Cervo , Moscow, Paris, Miami , Casablanca , Courchevel , Kiev , Hangzhou , Seoul and New York City .

In 2014, further openings followed in Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New York City, Ibiza , Bodrum , Doha and the first duty-free shop at Vienna International Airport . The Fall / Winter 2014 men's fashion show was created by producer Etienne Russo . The Spring / Summer 2015 men's fashion show and after party took place in an abandoned historic public swimming pool that was being renovated for the show.

In February 2017, the fall / winter collection for the 2017/18 season was shown at New York Fashion Week . In May 2017, Plein hosted a fashion show of the Resort 2018 collection at his villa in Cannes during the International Film Festival. In June 2017, Plein presented three fashion shows by the three different brands Philipp Plein , Plein Sport and Billionaire for the Milan fashion week.
