Projects and concerts
In 1998, "Schiller" was launched in Hamburg by Christopher von Deylen and Mirko von Schlieffen as a club- oriented music project. The first single was called Das Glockenspiel . Ever since the debut album Zeitgeist , the style can be described as gentler, melodic electronic music , which is accompanied by well-known voice actors ( Benjamin Völz , Franziska Pigulla , Otto Sander , Hans Paetsch and Oliver Rohrbeck ). Von Deylen processed the impressions of a trip from London to Beijing in 2000 in his album Weltreise , which reached number 1 on the national music charts . This also included the piece Dream of You with Peter Heppner von Wolfsheim .
In spring 2002 von Deylen moved to Berlin and set up a new studio in Friedrichshain . In July 2003, Deylen and von Schlieffen separated, and since then Deylen has continued the Schiller project alone. The third Schiller album Leben was released in the same year . The guest musicians on the album again included Peter Heppner, but also Anke Hachfeld ( Milù ), Kim Sanders and Alexander Veljanov from Deine Lakaien . The star guest was Sarah Brightman , who contributed the vocals of The Smile . The title she sang was performed live at a Schiller concert in the Berlin Kulturbrauerei and recorded on video. The album Leben was accompanied by a two-part tour Live erLeben , the first tour since the project was founded. Christopher von Deylen was accompanied by a band with Gary Wallis on drums, Mickey Meinert on guitar, Tissy Thiers on bass and Christoph Papendieck on synthesizer .
Since 2004, von Deylen has been working with Harald Blüchel as "Blüchel and von Deylen", who produced two albums in the same year: Bi Polar , a symbiosis of modern classical music and electronic sounds, and Mare Stellaris , which, in response to a request from the German news magazine Stern for a soundtrack to a documentary about space was released.
In October 2005, the fourth Schiller album was released day and night with the guest musicians Kim Sanders , Jette von Roth , Moya Brennan , Tarja Turunen , Gary Wallis and Thomas D . A special guest was Mike Oldfield on guitar. Monumente Publications , the publishing house of the German Foundation for Monument Protection , published a new CD by Schiller in collaboration with Moya Brennan in November 2005 under the title A Future for Michel . The net proceeds of this CD are used to protect churches from decay, including the St. Michaelis Church . From April 27, 2006 to May 13, 2006, the second tour took place with Ralf Gustke and Christian Kretschmar as newcomers and Cliff Hewitt on electronic drums . Guests were Kim Sanders and Peter Heppner. New live guests were Jette von Roth and Thomas D.
On May 27, 2006, on the Bebelplatz in Berlin, on the 150th anniversary of Heinrich Heine's death, Schiller gave a concert together with the Babelsberg film orchestra . For the occasion, Christopher von Deylen had composed two new songs, for which Jette von Roth quoted texts by Heine. On August 1, 2006, Schiller played in front of 25,000 spectators in Athens at an open-air festival together with the band Depeche Mode . On September 14th of the same year an appearance at the Fairmont Hotel in Dubai followed . Christopher von Deylen was accompanied to this performance by his live band, guests were Kim Sanders, Jette von Roth and Peter Heppner.
A live DVD of the day and night tour was released in mid-November 2006 . The DVD is titled Daydream and, in addition to a 120-minute concert recording, also contains a lot of additional material, five new titles, a documentary about the performance in Athens and various music videos from the album Day and Night . Further concerts took place between April and July 2007 in Europe, including in Tirana and Kiev , here at the invitation of the Goethe Institute .
On February 22, 2008, the fifth studio album entitled Sehnsucht was released . The album comprises around 30 tracks and, in addition to Jette von Roth and Kim Sanders, has several new guest artists such as Xavier Naidoo , Klaus Schulze , Ben Becker , Anna Maria Mühe , Ana Torroja (Ex- Mecano ), Despina Vandi , Isis Gee , Jaël and other artists . In Germany it reached number 1 on the album charts in early March .
Together with the Chinese pianist Lang Lang , Christopher produced the track Time for Dreams , which appeared on Lang's new album. Both played the title live for the first time on the Bregenz lake stage in June 2008. The title was best known as a signature tune during ZDF reporting at the 2008 Summer Olympics. In mid-2008, von Deylen worked with the American singer Colbie Caillat and produced the single You , which appeared on the fourth variant of the Schiller album Sehnsucht and was also released as a single in October 2008. On 12 March 2010, the sixth studio album appeared breathlessly where Deylen impressions from a trip to the Arctic processed. This is how, for example, the song Polarstern was created , named after the research ship on which he was en route. Musical guests include Lenka , Midge Ure , Kate Havnevik and Jaki Liebezeit .
On September 21, 2012, the single Sonne was released with Unheilig . Two weeks later, the seventh studio album of the same name, Sonne, followed on October 5, 2012 . In addition to a signed canvas, the Super Deluxe Edition included an admission ticket for the first warm-up concert played by Schiller in the Dortmund FZW . The album Opus was released on August 30, 2013 , in which the German oboist Albrecht Mayer, the French pianist Hélène Grimaud and the Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko also play . Here, too, a limited Ultra Deluxe Edition with 4 CDs and a signed canvas was released.
On February 26, 2016, the ninth album Future , which reached number 1 in Germany , was released. Later that year, the best-of album Zeitreise and the live album Zeitreise Live were released .
