Since her parents want Julia to attend the renowned private music boarding school "Amadeus", she takes a six-week preparatory course for the entrance exam. In boarding the 15-year-old Nick worked as an electrician. He is the lead singer and guitarist of the band "Rock it". Julia listens to a band rehearsal and falls in love with Nick. She notices that she thinks rock music is much better than classical music , which she plays because of her parents. Keyboardist Marc soon leaves “Rock it” and Julia sees her chance. Her friend Francesca helps Julia to dress up and get the free space with the new name Toni as a keyboard player. During a band rehearsal, Toni and Nick write a song together that is very important to both of them. But the devious and career-addicted Betty notices that Julia, her partner, is not involved in the rehearsals, and lets their cover blown. Julia has to decide whether she wants to pursue a career as a professional pianist or fulfill her dream. Nick left her when he found out that she was going to the Amadeus. During the big foreplay, Francesca has hiccups and cannot perform at first. With Julia's help she manages and everyone is enthusiastic. Julia learns that Betty had her exposed and that she is to blame for everything. When she was supposed to play on stage with Betty, she stopped after a few bars and then sings the song she wrote with Nick, and he comes on stage and sings it with her. The jury thinks the song is very beautiful and in the end Nick and Julia kiss. Now a new career begins for Rock-it on the Amadeus.

Reviews

The film received mixed reviews. Harald Mühlbeyer from Cinefacts.de writes : “The film is actually only enjoyable on a straight level for those for whom Mick Jagger and Take That are actually the only veterans of past pop culture they know. The others don't have to watch this film, and if they do have to - no idea: as a companion to teenagers maybe - you can only wish them a film enjoyment on a meta level. "

Cinema.de , on the other hand, sees the film rather positively: “The shallow boarding school comedy reminds in some moments of the awkward charm of the drama films from the early 70s. But despite all the clichés: 'Rock It!' is fun - which is mainly due to the carefree play of the young actors. "

Also Kino.de shares this opinion: "A German musical stands and falls with its German lyrics. If they come across as embarrassing and stilted, you've already lost. But the songs in 'Rock It' are fresh, authentic, contemporary […] All that remains to be mentioned is that Emilia Schüle ('Cheeky Girls') and Daniel Axt ('Die Brücke') harmonize perfectly as lovers.
