Melbeatz
Melbeatz (born July 18, 1977 in Berlin ; real name Melanie Wilhelm ) is a German hip hop producer. Since she is one of the few producers in the hip-hop genre in German-speaking countries , she is often referred to in the scene as the “Queen of Beats”.
resume
Melbeatz grew up as an only child in Berlin and attended a total of nine schools. The numerous school changes came about through many moves in her youth. After living in Baden-Württemberg for a year and a half , she had to switch from grammar school to secondary school on her return, where she stayed in the meantime. After she had finished secondary school without a qualification, she later made up her secondary and extended secondary school diplomas at evening schools. A secondary school leaving certificate that was planned afterwards was no longer achieved. Due to graffiti - vandalism they came often in their youth with police and justice in conflict.
She came into contact with music through her long-term partner Kool Savas , whom she had met through membership in a graffiti group. In November 1996 she began to produce her first beats on a tape. In the meantime, she gave up her actual career aspiration to become a graphic designer. Until 2001 she worked on a side job alongside her music career. She has been a vegetarian since she was seventeen , and has been largely vegan for the last millennium .
Career
In 1996 she joined the band MOR , founded by Kool Savas , Justus and Fumanschu , whose album NLP , which was released in 2001, she produced and which reached number 65 in the German album charts. In the fall of 2001, however, she left them again with Savas.
In May 2002, Kool Savas founded the record label Optik Records , where Melbeatz was the first female artist to sign. Immediately afterwards, DJ Nicon , Valezka and Eko Fresh also joined this Sony BMG sub-label. Until its dissolution in 2009, she worked there as a producer of various artists of this label, in addition to the aforementioned for the artists Amar , Caput , Ercandize , Franky Kubrick and Moe Mitchell , who have since been signed . So Kool Savas' debut album The Best Day of My Life was produced by her, as was Eko Fresh's debut hit König von Deutschland , although it left Optik Records immediately afterwards .
Melbeatz released their long-planned debut album Rapper's Delight in 2004 , which includes guest appearances by rappers such as Kanye West , Mobb Deep , Azad , Curse , Olli Banjo , Ol 'Dirty Bastard and Illmatic and reached number 32 on the album charts. From this album comes the single OK , which Melbeatz recorded with Kool Savas and Samy Deluxe . The beats of many of the songs she produces are very much inspired by the synthesizer sound of the 1980s. At first she had no role models among producers. Only Timbaland became a point of reference for them in this regard. For some time now she has been part of the Hätrz production team together with Bazz .
In 2004, 2005 and 2006 she received a JUICE award in the “Best Producer” category. In 2007 and 2009 she was voted best producer at the hiphop.de awards.
She was also involved in creating the soundtracks for the films Let's Break (Adil goes) by Esther Gronenborn, Kings and for Knallhart by Detlev Buck .
Melbeatz is an integral part of the dance project " Durstlöscher " together with the singer Alexandra Prince . The first music video Dance to the End was released on February 23, 2012.
equipment
Melbeatz has a home studio in her apartment. In the beginning she mainly worked with a Music Production Center 4000. She now also uses Cubase from Steinberg .
