Sasha Strunin , also Alexandra Strunin (born October 27, 1989 in Leningrad , Soviet Union as Aleksandra Igoriewna Strunina , Cyrillic : Александра Игоревна "Саша" Струнина), is a Polish singer of Russian origin.

Life

youth

Strunin was born in Leningrad to a Russian father and a Ukrainian mother. Both parents were opera singers. During her childhood, the family commuted between Russia, Poland and Ukraine. Although she was born in Russia, she sees herself as Polish.

From 2009 to 2013 she studied photography at the Poznan Art University (Uniwersytet Artystyczny w Poznaniu).

Her musical career began in 2003 when she performed with Jessica Simpson's When You Told Me You Loved Me at a song festival in Brzeg and won the children's competition. In 2005 she reached the semi-finals of Idol .

With jet set

In 2005 she became the singer of the Polish band The Jet Set . Together with the band, she entered the Polish final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the title How Many People and took third place. After a tour with Belgian singer Danzel , the band released their debut album Just Call Me in July 2006 , which reached number 30 on the Polish album charts and was later awarded a gold record .

In 2007 the band won the Polish final and represented Poland with Time to Party at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki . In the end they reached place 14 in the semifinals and thus missed the final round. On January 1, 2009, they finally announced their dissolution.

In 2008 Strunin took part in the 5th season of the Polish edition of Celebrity Big Brother , but left the house after 30 days.

Solo career

After The Jet Set ended, Strunin signed a recording deal with Sony Music Entertainment Poland . Her debut single was Emely , a duet with the Swedish singer Danny Saucedo . Her solo debut was finally the title To nic kiedy płyną łzy . Her first solo album Sasha was finally released in September 2009 and was a great success.

In 2010 she recorded the song Muzyki moc with numerous other Polish musicians such as Doda , Ewa Farna , Gosia Andrzejewicz , Kasia Cerekwicka and Kasia Wilk on the occasion of VIVA Polska's tenth birthday . In 2010 she also appeared in the Polish soap opera Pierwsza miłość .

In 2011 she terminated her contract with Sony Music and began working as an independent artist. Together with music producer Andrzej Prymuszewski , she founded the production company AS Music Production, which, however, did not last long. Her first solo single as an independent artist was released under the title Game Over in September 2011. 2013 she appeared in the opening act for Zaz .

Her EP Stranger was released on October 29, 2013 . In December of the same year she recorded the Christmas single Magia Świąt as part of the reALICJA project , the proceeds of which went to the Polish singer Alicja Borkowska , who had a stroke a month earlier .

In 2014 she tried to participate in SuperDebiuty as part of the 51st Polish Song Festival in Opole , but was disqualified for recording more than one album in her career. In November she performed at a concert in honor of the employers' association Pracodawcy Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej . The concert was also attended by Polish President Bronisław Komorowski and his predecessor Lech Wałęsa .

Her second album Woman in Black was released on October 14, 2016, composed by jazz musician Gary Guthman .
