Danzel
Danzel (actually: Johan Waem , born November 9, 1976 in Beveren-Waas , Belgium ) is a Belgian musician from Antwerp . In 2004 he landed with his song Pump It Up! a Europe-wide success.
Career
Waem's career began as a singer and guitarist for the band Scherp op de Snee. Later he could be heard on some recordings as the backing singer for the LA band.
In 2003 he took part in Idools 2003 , the Belgian (Flemish) version of the casting show Pop Idol (German: Deutschland sucht den Superstar ), and reached the round of the last 20 candidates.
In late 2003 he recorded the single Pump It Up! on. The dance song is based on the song of the same name by the Black & White Brothers ( Mr. Mike and Djaimin Leonardo Stella) from 1999.
The song initially conquered clubs and discos in France and stayed at number 1 on the dance charts for a total of eight weeks. Via Belgium , where the single reached gold status , and Italy , where the song was used for the Pringles advertising campaign, among others , Pump It Up! in autumn 2004 Germany. Here the single rose to number five in the single charts in October. With the second single You Are All of That he had less success.
With Put Your Hands Up in the Air! In 2005 he again released a remake of an earlier hit song by the Black & White Brothers.
On January 28, 2006, he took part in the Polish qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 with the song Undercover . He finished ninth.
