Optik Records was a German hip-hop - independent label based in Berlin. The label was founded in May 2002 by rapper Kool Savas . Until the beginning of 2008 Optik Records had a distribution contract with Groove Attack . In February 2009 Optik Records was dissolved due to financial problems.
General
The starting line-up consisted of Valezka , Eko Fresh , Melbeatz and DJ Nicon. Until the dissolution, besides Savas, Melbeatz, DJ Nicon and Ercandize , also Caput, Amar, Franky Kubrick, Kaas, the producer Christyle, DJ Sir Jai and the singer Moe Mitchell belonged to Optik Records . Furthermore, Savas' cousin Dimi and his brother-in-law Igor have been part of the optics camp as Optik Youngstarz since 2005 . Sinan, the brother of Kool Savas, was also part of Optik Youngstarz until June 2008 , but separated from Optik Records and switched to the label Krieger der Sonne . The Swiss rapper Dezmond Dez was the artist of the sub-label Optik Schweiz, founded in 2006.
The label was also responsible for the soundtrack of the film Adil goes (Let's break) by Esther Gronenborn , which was largely produced by Melbeatz and dISCOpOLO (ABS), as well as exclusive songs by Ercandize and Amar. Previously Melbeatz was for the soundtrack of the short film Kings and for the film Tough Enough by Detlev Buck responsible.
On July 31, 2008, Kool Savas announced on the label's website that he would liquidate the label after the farewell tour in early 2009. The last official Optik Records concert took place on January 31, 2009 in Berlin.
Achievements and Awards
Kool Savas' first album on his label, The Best Day of My Life , landed at number 6 in the German charts and sold around 85,000 times.
The mixtape The John Bello Story continues to be the most successful mixtape on the German hip-hop market. It entered the Media Control Charts at number 17 and has since sold well over 60,000 times. The collaboration album One by Kool Savas and rapper Azad reached the top 5 in the German charts and sold around 96,000 times. The single All4One was released from this album and reached the top 10. In 2006, the entire Optik crew released their first album, Optik Takeover, and went straight to number 8 on the charts.
Kool Savas second album Dead or Alive was released on November 2nd, 2007. It was the last album by Kool Savas to be released under SonyBMG / Subword. Dead or Alive rose from 0 to 10 on the German album charts .
In 2006, Optik Records was named the best German hip-hop label by the readers of the music magazine Juice , and Savas was named “Best Rapper of the Year” for the fourth time in a row. Melbeatz was named "Best Producer of the Year" for the second time in a row. Furthermore, the Kool Savas Goes Hollywood mixtape was voted “Best Mixtape of the Year”, and a year later Kool Savas - The John Bello Story was named the best mixtape. Kool Savas received the Comet in 2003 for the album The Best Day of My Life .

The artists published by Optik Records were collectively referred to as Optik Army, with Kool Savas being mentioned individually.

Artists who have left the label are the singer Valezka and the rappers Eko Fresh , SD and MC Spontan , who followed his friend SD. Eko Fresh then founded the German Dream label .
