Anatomy 2 is a medical thriller from 2003. In the sequel to the film Anatomy , published in 2000, the focus is again on the anti-Hippocrats' secret box, which was uncovered in the first part by the protagonist Paula Henning. The scene shifts from Heidelberg to Berlin . The film opened in German cinemas on February 6, 2003.

action

The film begins with a shocking scene. The medical student Benny penetrates the reception of his professor Müller-LaRousse and massacres himself before the eyes of the assembled society.

Then the real story begins. The main actor is the young neurosurgeon Jo from Duisburg , who wants to do his internship at a large clinic in Berlin . He hopes to find a place in Müller-LaRousse's research group, since his younger brother is in a wheelchair because of a muscular dystrophy from which his father died and the professor's research is concerned with it.

At first, however, Jo doesn't quite manage to get connected - until one night he illegally uses an operating room. He was asked by the Filipino nurse Lee to save the life of a little girl. The professor catches Jo in the act and calls him over. However, he does not want to fire him, but gives him a lecture on the fact that rules are for the weak and that committed researchers would only make life unnecessarily difficult. Pleased with Jo's commitment, he offers him a place in his research group.

The secret association with young doctors is working on a spectacular project in OP 17 - synthetic muscles. Jo is soon privy to the professor's developments. The synthetic muscles not only offer the opportunity to enable patients like his brother to walk, but they can even raise performance to superhuman levels. Like his fellow students Viktoria, Sven, Gregor and Hagen before, Jo has the artificial muscles used to test the implants through self-experiments and to advance the project.

Although Sven, who sees through the professor's madness, warns him, Jo joins the anti-Hippocrats. The next day Sven is dead. Since this is not the first incident in the professor's vicinity and Sven had contacted the BKA , Paula Henning is investigating at the hospital. The former medical student, who was on the trail of the secret box, now works for the police. She suspects that Jo - marked by a plaster covering the scar of his recent anti-Hippocratic swearing in - has something to do with the lodge and offers him to testify as a key witness . Jo refuses this offer out of blind trust in the professor.

Jo wants to do honest work to help people. But the other medics in the group aren't too strict about ethics. Viktoria is currently experimenting with a special mixture of hormones with which she wants to increase sexual performance. In the anatomy room, she decides to test the new remedy with Jo.

But not only Victoria realizes that Jo has an excellent body. That is why the young doctor is chosen as a test subject for "Phase 2". All natural muscles are to be replaced by artificial ones. When Jo is caught by the nurse Lee while abusing medication while on duty, he vacillates between anger and despair. Lee then gives him Professor Müller-LaRousse's research papers on Benny; Jo realizes that the professor is abusing him and his fellow students for inhuman attempts and is essentially pursuing fascist goals with the creation of "a new master race" and thereby going over corpses. He now decides to get out, but has to determine what influence the lodge has. He was able to flee at first, but was soon brought back to the hospital by other members of the research group. Since Jo's knowledge poses a great danger to the project, the professor tries to murder him - disguised as an operating room. However, Jo is able to free herself with the help of Lee. The professor is injured and ultimately killed by a member of his research group.

In the epilogue, the clinic director, who is also involved as an anti-Hippocrat, conducts an application interview with a doctor in order to fill the position that has become vacant due to the professor's death, including his research work. Thus the option of a continuation is kept open.

background

The creation of artificial muscles is not a vision of the future. This is how v. a. MIT scientists are working on the development of so-called actuators , which consist of special polymers (molecules).

production

The location for many of the outdoor shots was the Benjamin Franklin University Hospital (UKBF) in Berlin-Lichterfelde .

criticism

“If Anatomy 2 works, it's mainly because the film is more independent and ultimately more mature than its predecessor […] this is a smart and courageous decision. [...] Ruzowitzky's greatest asset, however, are the young actors, who are not only among the best of their generation, but also counteract the threatening clichéd typification of their roles. "

"Effectively staged thriller with some exaggerated drastic effects, which hides its outrageous and ridiculous plot behind a technically skilled tension dramaturgy."
