Humanity must fight against intelligent and adrenaline-fueled creatures infected by a super virus. The title of the film refers to the English-language term patient zero , an index patient , i.e. in epidemiology the person from whom the spread of a disease has its certain or presumed outcome, especially in the case of infectious diseases. On October 29, 2013, Screen Gems was able to secure the US rights for the film after Fox Searchlight Pictures and Syfy Films and Warner Bros. had participated in a bidding contest, among others.

Directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky , the screenplay is by Mike Le . This ended up on the blacklist of Hollywood's best unmoved ideas in 2013 . The soundtrack was composed by Michael Wandmacher . The soundtrack, which includes a total of 25 pieces of music, was released for download on June 26, 2019 by Madison Gate Records.

Matt Smith played the lead role of Morgan in the film. Natalie Dormer plays Dr. Gina Rose and Clive Standen can be seen in the roles of Knox. John Bradley played Scooter, Pippa Bennett-Warner played Linda and Agyness Deyn Janet. In another role is Stanley Tucci to see as a professor.

Filming and publishing

Filming took place at Shepperton Studios and Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, where it was shot in spring 2015. The film was partly shot in black and white.

In July 2015, producer Natalie Dormer , director Stefan Ruzowitzky and screenwriter Mike Le presented the film project together with the main actors at the Comic-Con. In July 2018, Sony Pictures presented a first trailer for the film. The film has been available on stream since August 14, 2018 and was released in US cinemas on September 14, 2018.

In the USA, the film received an R rating from the MPAA , which corresponds to a rating of 17 and over.
