The Black List is an annual survey that lists popular but not yet filmed scripts . The results have been published annually in December by the filmmaker Franklin Leonard since 2005.

history

Franklin Leonard, a former Universal Pictures employee , put together the first black list in 2005. He asked around 90 friends from the field of film production about their top ten scripts, which they had read this year, but which were not made into a film. From the resulting results, Leonard generated a list and sent it back to the participants in the survey as a thank you.

Since then, Leonard has surveyed filmmakers from various film studios and production companies every year and publishes the results online on the second Friday in December. Since the Black List came into being, a total of around 1,000 films have been listed, around a third of which were later filmed.
