action

Audrey Burke is married to Brian and has two children. Brian is shot dead when he comes to the aid of a woman who is being beaten by her partner in the street. Audrey establishes contact with Jerry Sunborne, her husband's best friend. Until then, Audrey was always against the friendship of the men and also tried to prevent contact between the two. The heroin addict Jerry finally moves into the family guest house and unwillingly takes over the deceased's duties, both in the role of father and as a support for Audrey. He passes the exam for a broker license. Although Jerry goes to group therapy because of his drug problem, he relapses and goes on a trip that lasts for several days and affects him badly. Nevertheless, he can finally get up again and is convinced by Audrey of a rehabilitation measure. After the rehab, he wants to find his own apartment and a job and pay Audrey back the cost of the rehab.

Reviews

Kirk Honeycutt wrote in The Hollywood Reporter on October 9, 2007, that the film was a " baseless " mixture of a " sappy " story about drug cessation and a story about a strange couple. It is refreshing that Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro are playing roles that are " undoubtedly " written for white actors. The “ dramatic intensity ” of the film is usually known from the top contributions to the Sundance Film Festival , which are intended for small adult audiences. The presentation of Halle Berry is " solid ".

Todd McCarthy wrote in the journal Variety of 11 October 2007, the representation of Benicio Del Toro in the " study of loss, devotion and catharsis " is " energy-laden " ( " live-wire "). The director approaches conventional subjects in a refreshing way, but the story offers only limited dramaturgical possibilities. Halle Berry appears “ believable ” in her role , but also “ ghostly ” and “ absent ”. The prospects of the film for cinema revenues are " modest ".
