John Carroll Lynch (born August 1, 1963 ) is an American actor and director .

Life

Lynch grew up in Minneapolis . Contrary to popular belief, John Carroll Lynch is not related to David Lynch . He graduated from the University of Minnesota and then graduated from the Catholic University of America in Drama with Honors. He later became a member of the prestigious Guthrie Theater Company in Minneapolis. He has appeared as a film and television actor since 1993, and since then he has appeared in more than 100 productions.

In Volcano (1997) he played alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche , in the film drama Thousand Morning (1997) he appeared alongside Jessica Lange , Michelle Pfeiffer and Jennifer Jason Leigh in one of the bigger roles. In the thriller The Mercury Puzzle (1998) he played the character of Martin Lynch, the murdered father of Simon Lynch played by Miko Hughes , whom Art Jeffries ( Bruce Willis ) protects. In the comedy A Friend to Fall in Love (2000) he played the role of Abbie Reynolds' attorney, who played Madonna . In the comedy The Good Girl (2002), in which he starred alongside Jennifer Aniston and Jake Gyllenhaal , Lynch played the manager of a supermarket. From 1997 to 2003 he was on the television series Drew Carey Show . In the horror film Gothika (2003) he played the Sheriff Ryan. Other roles in film and television followed.

In 2017 he made his directorial debut with Lucky . The work with Harry Dean Stanton in one of his last film roles received very good reviews.

John Carroll Lynch has been married to actress Brenda Wehle since 1997.
