action
Tommy Rowland and friends attended the same class at a school in the small town of Knights Ridge, Massachusetts . Willie Conway moved to New York City where he works as a musician. He has to make the decision whether he and his partner, the lawyer Tracy, should marry or not.
On the occasion of a class reunion organized years later, the friends see each other again. Each of them now has their own life. Conway learns that his friends are plagued by similar doubts as he is about the future and prospects. Waiting for his girlfriend to arrive, he falls in love with the thirteen-year-old girl next door to his family, Marty. Marty reveals to him that she is in love with him herself.
Paul Kirkwood asks Andera to meet him to make a woman jealous. He kisses her while dancing, whereupon Andera storms out of the bar.
Darian Smalls, Tommy Rowland's former childhood sweetheart, is unhappily married and has a little girl. Darian and Tommy are still attracted to each other after Tommy made a few half-hearted attempts to get rid of Darian for good, not least to avoid jeopardizing his own relationship. As the affair became known in the entire city, it comes to an argument between Tommy and Darian's husband, as a result Tommy ends up in the hospital.
