Split Enz was a successful band from New Zealand around the brothers Tim Finn and Neil Finn . Musically diverse, her style includes Art Rock , Vaudeville , Swing , Punk , Rock , New Wave and Pop .

Career

The band was formed in 1971 by Tim Finn and Phil Judd at Auckland University; besides them were Mike Chunn , Robert Gillies , Miles Golding and Noel Crombie in the band. At the time of their first singles still known as Split Ends , they changed it to Split Enz before their first little tour through Australia to emphasize their cultural origins ("NZ" is the common abbreviation for "New Zealand"). The troupe initially caused a sensation with their eccentric stage and costume designs, for which Crombie was responsible.

The band's career can be divided into two phases: between 1972 and around 1978 the influences of progressive rock are most clearly noticeable, which the band mixed with elements from folk, vaudeville and swing. When Judd left the band in 1977, Tim Finn led the style towards punk rock ; when his younger brother Neil joined the band as second guitarist, the style shifted towards New Wave with pop influences. This shift in style led to the band's most commercially successful phase.

Since the split in late 1984, the band has reunited several times to give concerts, although their members have also spoken out musically in other formations - as the Crowded House , Schnell Fenster, Citizen Band and the Finn Brothers. In 2005 the band was honored with the induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame .
