Simply to have (original title: Easy A ) is an American comedy by the director Will Gluck from 2010. The film thematizes the momentum that lies can develop, especially in the age of Web 2.0 .

The film is designed as a review in the form of a private webcast by the protagonist Olive Penderghast, played by Emma Stone , and in five chapters illuminates the events at her school that were triggered by her lies. This was the last film with Amanda Bynes since she ended her acting career that same year.

action

The inconspicuous Olive Penderghast speaks in a webcam recording about a white lie she invented that started it all. In a conversation that Olive has with her best friend Rhiannon Abernathy, who she wants to take on a camping trip, Olive picks up on one and invents a boy named George, with whom she has a weekend date. When Rhiannon asks at school on Mondays how the date went and keeps pushing Olive, she confirms what Rhiannon obviously wants to hear. Yes, she slept with the boy. The very Christian classmate Marianne Bryant happened to overhear the conversation. She is outraged and specifically passes what she hears on to other classmates. That's how the story goes at school and is always spun a little further, so that Olive is considered an easy girl to have in the end.

With their favorite teacher, Mr. Griffith, the students in English class are currently studying The Scarlet Letter , in which the exclusion of the adulteress Hester by her Puritan fellow citizens in the 17th century is discussed. Nina, another religious classmate, describes Hester as a "bitch", compares her to Olive and asks her to wear a red "A" on her chest, analogous to the story. Olive defends herself with an insulting remark to Nina and is then called to the school principal. There she meets the injured Brandon, a homosexual friend with whom she has not spoken in a long time. As a punishment, Olive and Brandon, who had a fight with a classmate, have to clean the school.

A little later, Olive is at home with her family and tells them that she had to go to the school principal. Brandon then comes to visit and sadly tells Olive about his terrible life. He persuades her to fake sex with him so that he is considered straight and no longer ostracized. When the most popular girl in school throws a party, Olive thinks it is the right time to retreat to a room with Brandon and loudly simulate sex, not without first making it public. When Brandon leaves the room, he is accompanied by loud hoots. Olive, however, goes home unhappy and with a feeling of shame after she happens to run into Todd at the party, an old friend who still means something to her.

Olive's marginalization by her classmates increases, but she has lost her reputation as a slut . She defiantly decides to wear the red "A" after all and provides a topic of conversation. Some guys learn from Brandon that they just played the whole thing. Olive then receives gift cards, vouchers and money from classmates so that they can claim to have had sexual contact with her. They hope it will increase their reputation.

Unaware of the hoax, Rhiannon becomes jealous of the attention Olive is suddenly getting and joins Marianne's church group. For Olive, however, the situation is becoming increasingly difficult. Marianne's friend Micah, allegedly as she refuses exactly sex before marriage, she has to Mrs. Griffith, the guidance counselor , cheated. He caught chlamydia and told his parents that he got them from Olive. When Olive sees the wife of her favorite teacher, Mr. Griffith, crying, she wants to help her and joins the game.

Nobody wants to have anything to do with Olive now, except Anson, who asks her out on a date. They go to a restaurant where Todd works, which they leave after a short time because Olive sees Rhiannon among the guests. She knows that Anson is her ex-girlfriend's great love. It quickly becomes clear that Anson actually thinks that he bought the right to sex with a voucher from a hardware store that he gave Olive. Olive just leaves him confused and hurt. Todd happens to be out of work, sees Olive, and drives her home. He tells her that he doesn't believe the rumors and that he didn't fall for Olive's lies. When he asks Olive for a kiss after showing how much he likes her, she declines on the grounds that she isn't ready for it today.

Olive is now doing everything possible to save her reputation and asks the boys who have used her for their own purposes to admit that it was all just talk and a lie. However, everyone refuses and Olive has to think of something else. When Mrs. Griffith refuses to admit that she had something with Micah and tells her that no one will believe her anyway, she runs to her husband, disappointed and angry, and tells him about his wife's affair. Seconds later, however, she regrets that she could be the cause of the breakup of her favorite teacher's marriage.

Olive asks all students in the gym with a daring vocal interlude to visit her website freeolive.com , as a sex show with Todd is to be recorded there. The response is great, as is the disappointment, Olive tells us how it really was and that all the stories were just made up. During her narration, Brandon who ran away with a man, Mr. Griffith, who separated from his wife, and Micah, who lives with his grandparents because of his "fornication", can be seen. Olive makes it clear that what happens when she is with a man is entirely up to her, and that she will certainly not share it with others. It seems that Todd could be that man for Olive. A reconciliation with her former friend Rhiannon is also likely.
