Malcolm McDowell (born June 13, 1943 in Horsforth as Malcolm John Taylor) is a British actor , who became known for his leading role in the classic film A Clockwork Orange .

biography

Life

Malcolm McDowell first worked in the pub of his parents, Edna and Charles Taylor, and later he was a coffee seller. He studied at the London Academy of Music and Art . He first appeared as an actor in the 1964 television series Crossroads , and made his film debut in the 1969 film If… . His best-known roles were in 1971, the main character Alex in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (A Clockwork Orange) and 1979 the title role in the scandalous film Caligula . McDowell was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in A Clockwork Orange . In 1993 he starred on the side of Tahnee Welch and Hugh Grant in the thriller Night Train to Venice .

In 2007 he appeared in the remake of John Carpenter's Halloween with the role of psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis to succeed the late Donald Pleasence . In the movie Star Trek: Gathering of Generations , he played the scientist Dr. Soran , who kills Captain Kirk in the finale of the film . He made a small appearance as a storyteller in the episode Great Expectations of the series South Park . In December 2009 he played the lead role in Corey Taylor's short film Snuff .

Since November 2011 he has hosted the 45-minute radio drama short story series Deadtime Stories once a month at Fangoria . In March 2012, McDowell was honored with a star in the Film category on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (at 6714 Hollywood Boulevard ). McDowell is mostly dubbed by Wolfgang Condrus .

His acting work for film and television includes more than 250 productions, including various B-films and dubbing.

Private

McDowell was married to actress Margot Bennett from 1975 to 1980 . His second wife was the actress Mary Steenburgen from 1980 to 1990 . This marriage resulted in two children, the actress Lilly McDowell (* 1981) and the actor Charlie McDowell (* 1983). He has been married to Kelley Kuhr since 1991. From this marriage three more children were born. The family lives in Ojai , California .

McDowell is the uncle of actor Alexander Siddig , who is known as Dr. Julian Bashir starred in the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine .

In the early 1980s, McDowell underwent rehab for alcohol and cocaine addiction .

Video games

In the English original of the 2008 video game Fallout 3 , he lent President John Eden and in the game The Elder Scrolls Online from 2014 to the main opponent Molag Bal the voice. Furthermore, McDowell played the Admiral Tolwyn in the video sequences of the science fiction computer games Wing Commander III - Heart of the Tiger (1994) and Wing Commander IV - The Price of Freedom (1996).
