The archaeologist Danny Freemont found three out of four parts of a blackboard, he is convinced of the that they once belonged to the Pharaoh Tutankhamun was one. The fully assembled table is intended to enable rulership over the world. Freemont works with Dr. Azelia Barakat together.
The Hellfire Council , headed by the wealthy Nathan Cairns, is trying to take over the parts of the table. The archaeologist Morgan Sinclair, who works for Cairns, searches in the vicinity of Cairo - just like Freemont - for the tomb of the pharaoh, where the fourth part of the tablet is believed to be. The secret society tries to persuade Freemont employing university to dismiss the scientist.
Meanwhile, Freemont meets a man who believes he is possessed by the spirit of Tutankhamun. The man makes a map that leads to the grave. Freemont finds the missing part of the tablet, but it is stolen by Sinclair. Sinclair tries with the help of the tablet to free Seth from the underworld, while Freemont frees Tutankhamun as his opponent. In a vaguely hell-like parallel world, the final battle takes place, which Tutankhamun wins. While Sinclair is being killed by Seth, Freemont and Azelia, with Tutankhamun's help, return to reality, which, according to Tutankhamun, is now "as it should be".
Reviews
James Plath wrote on dvdtown.com that the film proves that the B-movies category is alive. This film is copying the concept, plot, characters and even some scenes from the Indiana Jones films. Casper Van Dien is too young to be credible as an Egyptologist. The film seems like a low-budget film, although it is not one.
Richard Scheib wrote on The SF, Horror and Fantasy Film Review that the film was inspired by The Mummy and its sequel. He combines the elements of an adventure film with "respectable" elements of a comedy. The lines of dialogue represent a desperate attempt at the “cool and funny” ( “hip and funny” ) effect. The film contains racist messages and portrays the Egyptians played by the Indians as work slaves or ignoramuses.
The magazine prisma wrote that the director had already proven with Talos - The Mummy that he knew how to "skillfully bring the ancient Egyptian legends to life" . In this film, he puts “a lot of emphasis on the search that leads both protagonist and antagonist into a distant world” . The race between the two figures "against each other and against time" is "thrilling" .
backgrounds
The film was shot in Mumbai and Jaipur , India , among others . Its production amounted to an estimated 14 million US dollars .
