Leonor Varela Palma (born December 29, 1972 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean actress .

Life

Varela is the daughter of the biologist and neuroscientist Francisco Varela and his wife Leonor. In her childhood her family left Chile and started a new life in Costa Rica in order to escape the military regime of Augusto Pinochet . After the Pinochet era, the family returned to Chile shortly. Varela's family later moved to Germany and France for a short time . She grew up speaking four languages ​​including English, Spanish, French and Italian.

Varela has worked as an actress since 1995 after studying at the École du Passage and the Conservatoire Supérieur in Paris . To get her role in Cleopatra , the vegetarian had to prevail against more than 35 competitors.

Varela has appeared in numerous US, French and Spanish film and television productions. She often played the leading roles in episodes in various TV series.

During the filming of Cleopatra , she began a liaison with Billy Zane , to whom she was briefly engaged. She was then in a relationship with the photographer Anthony Mandler and the actor Eric Balfour , among others .

She has been in a partnership with the Argentinian actor and film producer Lucas Akoskin since April 15, 2013 . Their son Matteo was born on November 20, 2012. He was both first child. Shortly after the birth, Matteo was diagnosed with Aicardi-Goutières syndrome , a hereditary disease from which he died on November 16, 2018, four days before his sixth birthday.

On February 25, 2015, the two parents had a daughter.
