reception

criticism

German film critics often recognize religious propaganda in the film and criticize the excessive "pinch of US pathos" which, especially in the end, portrays belief in God as a way out of misery and thus almost drowns the film in "kitsch colors". Marius Zekri remarks that the whole film, its design and the material itself are perhaps too American for German moviegoers and that the acclaimed leading actors, despite all their efforts, fail to make great or at least mediocre cinema out of captive . Zekri also criticizes “cheap effects instead of tension, weaknesses in terms of content and a lot of pathos at the end”, which turn the actually strong story captive into a “sleeping pill among thrillers”. Even if the captive did not turn out to be an action film, as was often hoped: “The filmmakers stay close to the real events. So they opt for a dark intimate play rather than action noise. ”It was also criticized that Rick Warren's Life with Vision was a bestseller before and that the film is even more advertised.
