action

Joshua and his boss Vincent are on their way to a hospital. Both were shot. Joshua thinks back to his childhood when his father was shot dead in front of his eyes.

In a flashback, Joshua and his partner Mickey can be seen, they are looking for people who owe Vincent money. They learn from a crazy drug addict that a drug dealer named Frankie Tahoe is planning to kill Vincent. Joshua and Mickey inform Vincent, and the three eventually find Tahoe at a nightclub. Tahoe insults the religion Joshua and Vincent adhere to, causing Vincent to kill Tahoe with a baseball bat. The trio disposed of the body in a landfill. Vincent reveals that Mickey and Vincent's wife are having an affair. Vincent then kills Mickey too.

Joshua tells his boss that he's tired of the violence and wants to get out. Vincent admits he is prone to violent outbursts, but reminds Joshua that he owes him his life. Vincent makes it clear to Joshua that he cannot get out. At home, Vincent notices that he is being watched by two men. After Joshua also shows up, the men say they were ordered to take Vincent to Nino, a powerful gang boss. Vincent and Joshua get into the men's car and are taken to Nino's house.

After Nino taunts Vincent with a selection of expensive restitution proceedings for the murder of Tahoe, Vincent rejects every option. He leaves the house with Joshua. Vincent finds his wife brutally murdered in his estate. Vincent tries to give Joshua a $ 50,000 settlement and tells Joshua to leave town. Joshua refuses, saying he doesn't want to get out while Nino is still alive. As night falls, Vincent and Joshua break into Nino's house to seek revenge. Joshua fights his way through Nino's minions, Vincent finds Nino, wearing a bulletproof vest and waiting for him with a sawed-off shotgun in hand. Vincent is hit during the fight but survives, while Nino dies in a large pool of blood.

One of Nino's men is about to cut Joshua's throat when Vincent appears and shoots the henchman. This does not die immediately and Joshua identifies him as the murderer of Vincent's wife. Vincent uses the man's knife to eviscerate him. When Vincent and Joshua want to leave the house, Nino's wife shows up. She and Joshua shoot each other and both are wounded. The woman dies, but Joshua, who was hit in the stomach, manages to move on.

The plot jumps back to the beginning of the story, Vincent drives and Joshua lies in the back seat in severe pain. He remembers that it was Vincent who murdered his father. Joshua puts his pistol on Vincent's head. Vincent tells Joshua he's too loyal to kill his own boss. It remains unclear whether Joshua will pull the trigger.

Reviews

“Underworlders who have been washed with all hands can be drastically drained in this dark, atmospheric and heavily cast gangster thriller [...]. Oscar winner Cuba Gooding Jr. [...] obviously has fun working with such good people as Miguel Ferrer and Harvey Keitel again. Fight and kill scenes are tough, but the quieter scenes are also exciting and intense. "

“The dingy little ripper conjures up a great atmosphere between Shakespeare and John Woo. Gooding Jr. and Ferrer make an absolutely terrifying duo. Conclusion: Brutal ballad: cheaply shot, but stylish. "

"Extremely tough thriller, perfectly developed and played convincingly."
