Sherif Ismail ( Arabic شريف إسماعيل, DMG Šarīf Ismāʿīl ; * July 1955 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian engineer and politician . He was Prime Minister of Egypt from September 19, 2015 to June 2018 .

Life

Ismail graduated from Ain Shams University in Cairo in 1978 with a degree in mechanical engineering . He began his professional career in 1978 at the Mobil oil company . In 1979 he moved to the Egyptian engineering service provider ENNPi , and later moved up to the board of directors. From 2002 to 2005 he was his country's deputy oil minister. In 2005 he became CEO of the Egyptian state-owned natural gas holding EGAS, and in 2007 he became CEO of the state-owned oil holding Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (GANOPE). Ismail switched back to politics in 2013 and became oil minister in the cabinet of Hasim al-Beblawi and his successor Ibrahim Mahlab . After the resignation of the Mahlab government on September 12, 2015, President al-Sisi entrusted him with forming a government. Ismail and his cabinet were sworn in on September 19, 2015.

After Sherif Ismail was flown to Germany for medical treatment at the end of 2017, Mustafa Madbuli replaced him as Prime Minister.
