Ahmad Nazif ( Arabic أحمد نظيف, DMG Aḥmad Naẓīf ; * July 8, 1952 in Alexandria ) is an Egyptian politician . He was Prime Minister of Egypt from July 14, 2004 to January 29, 2011 . Nazif is the youngest prime minister in the history of Egypt since the establishment of the republic and the second youngest in the history of modern Egypt. Its name means clean in Arabic .

Nazif holds a Ph.D. from McGill University ( Canada ) in Computer Science . He succeeded Atif Abaid , who resigned at an extraordinary cabinet meeting after four years in office. Nazif was Minister of Communications and Information Technology in this cabinet . During his tenure as minister, various government measures have greatly improved people's access to the Internet .

On July 9, 2004, Husni Mubarak gave him the task of forming the new Nazif cabinet . Nazif was sworn in together with the 14 ministers of his government on July 14th. He then had Parliament's confidence expressed . His first major official act in September 2004 was to lower import tariffs to meet WTO demands.

In January 2005, he supported the candidacy of the son of Husni Mubarak, Gamal Mubarak , for the presidential election in September, which was controversial.

In the context of the revolution in Egypt in 2011 , he resigned from office. Habib al-Adli , who worked as interior minister in the Nazif cabinet , ordered vehicle registration plates from Utsch AG in 2007 at a price of 24.8 million euros . With reference to the tense security situation in Dahab due to the terror of April 24, 2006, no tendering procedure was carried out . Essam El-Batawy, the defender of Habib al-Adli, pointed out that the Ministry of Finance was responsible for the award. As a result, Youssef Boutros Ghali and Ahmad Nazif were accused by the public prosecutor's office of wasting public funds and Ahmad Nazif was arrested for 15 days in late March / early April 2011. On September 13, 2012, he was sentenced to three years' imprisonment and a fine of nine million pounds for unjust enrichment .
