history

In 1346 a church in Buchholz was first mentioned in a document. However, no traces of it have survived in the 21st century. At that time there was a wooden church north of the village church, which was replaced by a half-timbered building in 1751 . Only a year later, this building was destroyed in the great city fire in 1752. A year later, the parish erected a new sacred building - this time made of brick - and redesigned the market square. During this time , the church patronage was held by August Wilhelm von Prussia , the younger brother of Friedrich II. He financed the new building and in his honor the weather vane wore a gold-plated crown and the initials "AW". During the Second World War this flag was shot from the top, but could be secured. Then the church burned down. The reconstruction took several decades and was completed with a new coat of paint in the 2000s.

To the east of the building there is a memorial to those who died in the world wars on the village green. On the front is the inscription: "The victims of war and hatred of the peoples - the dead in memory - the living as a warning - the city of Märkisch Buchholz".

architecture

The hall church was built in the classicism style. The nave has a rectangular floor plan with a straight choir without an apse . It is provided with a light yellowish plaster throughout . On the north and south sides there are five raised, beehive-shaped lattice windows , the reveal of which protrudes from the facade. This effect was reinforced by a pastel-colored paint. It is extended downwards and there frames three more, much smaller windows between which there are two portals. The eastern of the two portals on the south wall is partially walled up and replaced by an identically designed window. The north side of the nave is identical to the south side. Here, too, there are five windows with two portals underneath, whereby the eastern one is also walled up here. The corners of the nave stand out clearly from the building with horizontally structured pilaster strips painted in light brown . Below the eaves there are two smooth friezes all around . The choir is kept very simple. On the pale yellow plastered surface stands out a rectangular surface with a slim pilaster strip and a cornice, which is painted white. The west tower has an approximately square floor plan. Up to the height of the eaves, it is also designed with a light brown pilaster at each corner. The windows take on the shapes from the nave. Above it, it steps back a little and is designed with vertical, alternating light yellow and light brown lines. On the floor above there are two beehive-shaped sound arcades on each side . The eight-fold kinked spire is covered with black slate and ends with a cross. The panels at the transition from the tower to the nave are striking .
