Cake is an American film drama by Daniel Barnz from the year 2014 . In the independent film , Jennifer Aniston plays alongside Anna Kendrick , Sam Worthington and Adriana Barraza, a woman disfigured after an accident and plagued by chronic pain. For her performance as an actress , Aniston was nominated for the Golden Globe for best leading actress. The film premiered on September 8, 2014 at the Toronto International Film Festival . The German theatrical release was on April 9, 2015.

Claire is a lovely woman. However, after a car accident that killed her child, she looks bitter on her life. Instead of grieving, your body reacts with severe pain that becomes chronic. Claire's pain becomes more and more unbearable and she loses herself in death fantasies and tantrums. She refuses any help and neither “therapy nor physiotherapy” or medication bring relief. In a self-help group for chronic pain patients, she meets Nina and is fascinated by her. When she takes her own life, Claire befriends her husband and son. Together they try to come to terms with their losses.

On February 10, 2014, it was announced that Jennifer Aniston would star in Cake . On March 15, the participation of the Mexican actress Adriana Barraza was confirmed. The remaining cast was announced on April 1st. The filming took place from April 3 to May 6, 2014 in Los Angeles.

Cake got mixed reviews. At Rotten Tomatoes , 49% of the reviews are positive, out of a total of 107 reviews; the average rating is 5.8 / 10. In the critical consensus it says: "In Cake , Jennifer Aniston gets the overdue opportunity to show her dramatic talents, but the film lacks sufficient depth or warmth to be recommended beyond their fan base." The film was rated by Metacritic out of 49/100, based on 38 reviews.

The Hollywood Reporter praised Aniston's strong acting performance in her most demanding dramatic role since The Good Girl, and Deadline gave Aniston an Oscar-worthy performance. The film service said that the "somewhat formulaic, also narrative overly predictable drama" does not allow itself to "go into any deeper investigation", but captivates "thanks to the masterful portrayal of a woman in an emotional and physical state of emergency".

Jennifer Aniston received numerous nominations for best actress for her portrayal, including a. at the Screen Actors Guild Awards , Critics' Choice Movie Awards, and Golden Globe Awards . She received no awards at the above awards, but at the People Magazine Awards and the Capri Hollywood Film Festival. She was also honored for her performance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival 2015 with the prestigious Montecito Award, previous winners of which include Daniel Day-Lewis , Julianne Moore and Javier Bardem .
