Ryan Benjamin Tedder (born June 26, 1979 in Tulsa , Oklahoma ) is an American musician , song composer and record producer . He is best known as the singer of the band OneRepublic , which had an international number one hit with Apologize in 2007. As a songwriter he worked for Beyoncé , Adele and Camila Cabello , among others . In 2014 the " Rolling Stone " named Tedder the Undercover King of Pop (German: secret king of pop).

Life

Tedder grew up in Tulsa, his birthplace, and learned to play the piano at the age of three. His father had already been a musician and a teacher. Tedder's favorite musicians at an early age were artists like Sting and Peter Gabriel . In his youth, music bands often formed in his environment to play in schools or churches. When he was in high school, he became a guitarist in a school band. With them was Zach Filkins, who would later be part of the OneRepublic group with Tedder.

After college, Tedder moved to New York and then to Nashville to produce songs. After some time as a producer, he met the hip-hop musician Timbaland (previously successful with Justin Timberlake or Aaliyah ), with whom further collaboration followed. Tedder was more successful as a producer with Timbaland. This was followed by engagements with Dima Bilan , Natasha Bedingfield , Monrose , Paul Oakenfold , Kelly Clarkson , Ashley Tisdale , Chris Cornell , Jennifer Lopez and Big Time Rush .

In 2007 he worked with Jennifer Lopez on her 2007 single Do It Well from her studio album Brave . At the same time there was a collaboration with Beyoncé on her album I Am ... Sasha Fierce , for which he wrote the song Halo . Tedder's work with Beyoncé earned him two Grammy nominations, one for Record of the Year and the other for Album of the Year . After meeting British singer Adele at the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony , he announced his interest in working with her. He attended one of her studio sessions to familiarize himself with her work and composed the first piano sequence and the first lines of her song Turning Tables . A few weeks later they met at Serenity West Studios in Los Angeles to write the song Rumor Has It . In an interview, Tedder said that she immediately sang the song from cover to cover without missing a note. Tedder served as a judge on the 10th and 11th Independent Music Awards to support the careers of independent artists. In 2013, Tedder mentored the second season of The Voice of Australia for the Delta Goodrem team . He then worked with Goodrem on their single Heart Hypnotic . Tedder was also an advisor to Adam Levine , the lead singer of Maroon 5 for his team on the fifth season of the US version of The Voice . OneRepublic
