Creation and publication
I Want You to Know was recorded in late 2014. It was written by Zedd, Selena Gomez and OneRepublics front man Ryan Tedder , among others . On February 13, Selena Gomez and Zedd published the cover for the I Want You to Know single on their Instagram pages at the same time . The publication as a download followed on February 23.
Music video
The music video for I Want You to Know was shot in early February 2015 and released on Vevo on March 11, 2015 . The video is directed by Anthony Chirco. The video for "I Want You to Know" shows the backdrop of a typical disco from the 1980s and 1990s. In less than 24 hours, the music video had more than 1,000,000 views.

Reviews
I Want You to Know received mixed to good reviews. Time magazine's Nolan Feeney welcomed the collaboration between Zedd and Selena Gomez . He thinks they make excellent music together. He justifies this with the fact that the futuristic sounds of I Want You to Know remind him of Break Free . But Gomez keep the song from becoming a lifelong copy of 'Break Free'.
Charts and sales
I Want You to Know reached position 39 in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for a total of 19 weeks. In Austria the single reached position 36 in 14 chart weeks, in Switzerland position 49 in 18 chart weeks, in the United Kingdom position 14 in eight chart weeks and in the United States position 17 in 16 chart weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 . Furthermore, I Want You to Know was placed at the top of the Billboard + Twitter Top Twitter Tracks.
