Stars Dance is the debut album by US pop singer Selena Gomez . It was released on July 19, 2013 in Germany and on July 23, 2013 in America. The album was released on the Hollywood Records label , to which Gomez has been under contract since June 2008. The songs Come & Get It and Slow Down were released as singles . Stars Dance was awarded gold in Brazil and Canada.
Background and origin
In March 2012 Selena Gomez & the Scene announced an album for Winter / Spring 2013. In November 2012 it was announced that the album should be released in March 2013. The first single was planned for January 2013. But in March 2013 Gomez announced that she and the band The Scene would take a break and that they would release a solo album in the summer of 2013.
In an interview, Gomez admitted that she was very inspired by Britney Spears . There are also very personal songs on the album. She revealed in an interview with InStyle magazine that the song Love Will Remember would be about Justin Bieber . She stated that the song "is certainly the most personal track on the record" and she "thinks it's a cute way to release it". She also said that Justin Bieber "will love" the song too.
Gomez works with The Cataracs, Stargate and Rock Mafia, who recorded some songs with her for the album. Jennifer Lopez wanted the song Save the Day for her album AKA, but Selena Gomez got the nod.
In an interview with a French radio station, Gomez announced that she was taking a break from music after this album in order to concentrate more on her acting career.
Music genre
The album is very pop and dance orientated. Jason Evigan said of the album's musical style that it has "some really cool like ethnic influences (...)". Gomez said producer Skrillex also had an impact on the album as it featured on the soundtrack to Gomez's film Spring Breakers .

Published singles
Come & Get It
Come & Get It was the first single from the album. It was released on April 8, 2013 and officially featured on the Ryan Seacrest radio show . The song, which mixes synth pop with Indian music , peaked at number 6 on the official Billboard charts . Come & Get It has been awarded double platinum in the US and Canada . The video for the song was shot by Anthony Mandler and premiered on May 7th on MTV . The song was actually for the sixth studio album Talk That Talk by Rihanna planned, but the song did not find a space on the disk, so that other artists were offered.
She made her first live appearance with Come & Get It on April 14, 2013 at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards . She also sang the song on US television shows Dancing with the Stars , The Ellen DeGeneres Show , Late Show with David Letterman , Radio Disney Music Awards, and the 2013 Billboard Music Awards . The video also won the 2013 Video Music Awards with the Award for best pop video.
Slow down
On June 3, 2013, Gomez released the second single Slow Down , which was first played on August 19. The song is assigned to the genre Dubstep . The accompanying music video was shot on May 26th and 27th, 2013 in Paris . The music video was released on July 19, 2013. So far, Slow Down has reached the top 30 in the US and Canada.
