action
The series is about the Russo family of five . But the Russos have a secret: they are wizards . The family man Jerry is a former wizard, because he had to give up his magic powers to marry a mortal. His wife Theresa is the mother of three children Justin, Alex and Max. According to the usual wizarding rules, only one of the children in the family is allowed to keep his magic powers. However, who can keep his ability to do magic will be decided in a final competition between the siblings. In addition to regular school, Justin, Alex and Max also have to take magic lessons from their father. These lessons are compulsory for young magicians and are intended to prepare them for competition. Together, the family runs a sandwich shop in the underground design called Waverly Sub Station .
main characters
Alexandra "Alex" Margarita Russo
Alex is the second child of Theresa and Jerry Russo and was born in a taxi. She is a real troublemaker and loves to tease her older brother Justin. She is very confident. During the first season her crush is Riley, in the first episode of the second season she falls in love with Dean. The relationship between the two lasts for the entire second season. In the episode "Wizards and Vampires: The Dream Date" , Alex separates from Dean because they have drifted apart. Alex has been dating Mason Greyback, a new British student, since season three, but breaks up with him again in season four because he thinks she has feelings for the animal tamer Chase Riprock. But she gets back together with Mason at the end of the fourth season. Alex has had an enemy named Gigi since kindergarten who just enjoys humiliating other students. Alex is a good liar and always approaches problems very calmly and calmly. She is rather little interested in theoretical magic lessons. Alex prefers the practice and very often conjures unauthorized. Their arbitrary sorcery almost always leads to problems. Together with her brother Justin or her friend Harper, she then has to find a solution. In the episode "Uncle Kelbo" Alex has brief magic lessons from her uncle, who prefers practical magic more than theory. At first she has a lot of fun, as her uncle mainly concentrates on jokes and pranks, but Alex quickly realizes again that her real magic teacher is her father. From the third season onwards, Alex takes magic a little more seriously, because she really wants to catch up with her brother Justin to have a chance in the final wizarding contest. In season four, Alex announces that she is a sorceress. You and Justin have to go to the magical court because of this and are downgraded to level 1. Like her brothers, she is half Italian and half Mexican. She only remembers that she is half-Mexican, her father always has to remind her of her Italian origins. In the last episode "The Decision" she wins the wizard contest and thus becomes the new family sorceress.
Justin Vincenzo Pepe Russo
Justin is the oldest child of the Russos. He is the complete opposite of Alex, so he is the smartest of the siblings and constantly learning. In normal school he is not one of the particularly cool and popular, but at the Zaubercollege (a summer school for young magicians) he is very popular and counts as very cool. Justin loves teaching sorcery theory. He's a real model student, but sometimes the lessons themselves get on his nerves. Although he is very mature and adult, he still sleeps with night light and is very enthusiastic about child activities. He has action figures that his sister likes to call dolls to annoy him. They are characters from comics with which he recreates scenes. Justin is almost always annoyed by Alex, and occasionally by Max. Although that annoys him, he always bails his little sister out of a mess and is always there for her when she needs him. In the first season, Justin has a friend named Miranda. At the beginning of the second season he went on a blind date with a werewolf. Juliet, a vampire, has been his girlfriend since the end of the second season. In the third season he is doing a monster hunter internship since he has finished his magic apprenticeship. However, he ended the internship after just a few episodes. Although he lost the wizarding contest, he is still allowed to keep his magic power and takes the place of Professor Krümel and becomes the new headmaster at the wizarding college.
Maximilian "Max" Russo
Max is the youngest child and often a bit difficult to understand. He's mostly up for a prank, either with Alex to annoy Justin or with Justin just to have fun. He's also very messy, his room is never really tidy. Max mostly doesn't care what is going on around him. He is a relatively average student. His father once hired a sorcery tutor for him so he could catch up with his siblings a bit. From episode 5 to episode 11 of season 4, Alex and Justin accidentally turned Max into a girl, but from the outside it's just "Maxine", Max's cousin, who lives with the Russos for a while on a student exchange. Up until the episode "The Love Potion" , Max found it very difficult to perform magic because he did not yet have his full magic powers. At the beginning of the fourth season, Max becomes the new head of the wizarding family, as Alex and Justin have failed to keep their magical powers a secret. After the magic contest, he is later allowed to take over his father's Waverly Sub Station.
Harper Finkle
Harper is Alex's best friend. Until the episode "Harper Knows", she knew nothing about the Russo children being magicians. She takes things in a rather straightforward and casual way, but is always there for the Russos when they have magic problems. Harper is pretty clumsy and a bit naive and therefore quite the opposite of Alex. She also makes her own strange clothes, sometimes including groceries. Occasionally she also goes shopping in the children's section. She also loves Alex's brother Justin, who doesn't reciprocate her feelings. She's always trying to get Justin out on a date and acts very weird when he's around. In order not to hurt her feelings, Alex always lies or bypasses it on this subject. From the episode "Justin's New Girlfriend" onwards , Harper seems to get her feelings for Justin halfway under control and doesn't behave so strange anymore when it comes to him. In season 3 she meets Zeke and is with him from season 4.
Theresa Russo
Theresa is Mexican and runs a sandwich shop with her husband Jerry on Waverly Place. She is not a sorceress, but she knows about magic and mainly helps her children in non-magical matters. She hates it when her children do random magic. She's not really into magic, and magic is usually the number one reason she and Jerry have disagreements. She is also afraid to be on a ship because she thinks that people are not meant to be.
Jerry Russo
Jerry is Italian and was once a magician himself. However, he had to surrender his powers to his brother Kelbo, as the laws of wizards forbid magicians from marrying mortals, in this case Theresa. He kept this a secret for a long time, only in the episode "Uncle Kelbo" did he reveal this to his children. He is the complete opposite of his brother Kelbo, namely very responsible, hardworking and has extensive knowledge of magic. But he's also funny and lets himself have a bit of fun, willy-nilly. He also likes to eat. Jerry and Kelbo have a sister named Megan. When Jerry won the wizarding contest, he gave his powers to Kelbo because he needs them more than Megan to get by in the world. She has been on bad terms with her brothers ever since. Even when it comes to whether Jerry's kids can keep their strength, Megan doesn't want to help. Only in the episode "The Magic Repeat Test" are Justin, Alex and Max told that they have an aunt.
