Maria Pilar Canals-Barrera (born September 28, 1966 in Miami , Florida ) is an American actress of Cuban descent, best known for her role as Theresa Larkin-Russo in the Disney Channel series The Wizards of Waverly Place .

Life

Canals-Barrera made her debut in an episode of the television series 21 Jump Street - Tatort Klassenzimmer from 1990. She was nominated for an ALMA Award in 1998 for her role on The Tony Danza Show . In 2002 she received the same award for her role in the television series The Brothers Garcia .

Maria Canals-Barrera played the role of Theresa Larkin-Russo in the television series Die Zauberer vom Waverly Place from 2007 to January 2012 . This role earned her in 2008 nominations for the ALMA Award and for the Imagen Award . In the musical comedy Camp Rock (2008) she appeared in a larger role on the side of Demi Lovato , Joe Jonas and Meaghan Jette Martin . In 2011 she took on the role of a student in Tom Hanks' production Larry Crowne , who is taught by Julia Roberts , among others .

Canals-Barrera is married to actor David Barrera .
