action

Lizzie, with her parents and her hyperactive little brother Matt, has to go through all the problems that come with growing up. Miranda Isabella Sanchez and David Gordon are always at her side so that she does not have to fight these problems all by herself. Gordo has known her all her life and therefore has a close connection to him. As revealed inadvertently in an episode of Miranda, Lizzie had a crush on Gordo in fourth grade. Lizzie doesn't even notice that he has very strong feelings towards her, because she only looks for her big crush Ethan Craft. But he's the most popular boy in school, of all people, and her greatest enemy, Kate Sanders, is interested in him too. The diva is a cheerleader at Lizzie's school. A recurring background gag is Lizzie's inner voice embodied by a Lizzie cartoon character, which questions and comments on selected aspects of the plot.

main characters

Hilary Duff played Lizzie McGuire
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Brooke McGuire
Elizabeth "Lizzie" Brooke McGuire ( Hilary Duff ) is portrayed as the average, clumsy, accident prone girl who wants to find her place in the world, despite the fact that her animated alter ego often tells her true feelings. Lizzie constantly gets into arguments with her younger brother Matt, but knows how to tell right from wrong and in the most crucial moments she always stands by her family. She is a good student and has a talent for rhythmic gymnastics . Lizzie is often the first to apologize, she is incredibly loyal and sometimes Lizzie gets lost in her passionate nature and impulsiveness. Lizzie is allergic to shellfish, especially oysters. In the episode "Who-Is-The-Killer," Lizzie finds out that Gordo likes her, but isn't sure how she feels about him. In the last episode of the series she shows Gordo, after reading his message in the yearbook, by kissing him on the cheek that she too likes him very much. At the end of the film Popstar in a Detour , Lizzie and Gordo are a couple. In the original, the little comic Lizzie is also spoken by Hillary Duff.
Miranda Isabella Sanchez
Miranda ( Lalaine Vergara-Paras ) is the daughter of Edward and Daniela Sanchez and Lizzie and Gordo's girlfriend. She is very self-confident, likes to wear gaudy and freaky clothes and, like Lizzie, raves about Ethan Craft. Despite the fact that Miranda's family is from Mexico , they only speak broken Spanish. Although she and Lizzie do not always agree and their friendship is at risk from time to time, in the end they always find each other and stand together. In the episode "Miranda Superstar" it turns out that, although she has no acting talent, she can sing very well. She does not appear in any of the last six episodes of the series or in the movie Popstar on the grounds that she is with her family in Mexico on vacation.
David "Gordo" Gordon
Gordo ( Adam Lamberg ) is the son of psychologists Howard and Roberta Gordon and is friends with Miranda and Lizzie - he has known Lizzie since they were babies. He's smart, always gets good grades, and always has good advice for his friends and classmates. He is passionate about making films (especially documentaries) and one day would like to take up the profession of film director. Gordo is Jewish and gets his bar mitzvah in the episode "Gordo Becomes a Man" . Due to his, for his age unusual interests (such as the music of Frank Sinatra ) or his inconspicuous style of clothing, he is often not seen as "cool" by other students, but he always doesn't care what others think of him and try to convey this to his friends as well.
He is secretly in love with Lizzie, which becomes more and more obvious towards the end of the series, but she only notices at the end of the series. At the end of the movie pop star in a roundabout way , the two become a couple.
Matthew "Matt" McGuire
Matt ( Jake Thomas ) is Lizzie's hyperactive little brother. He always tries to play pranks on his sister or to hide his actions from his parents. In contrast to his sister, he is very extroverted and self-confident, which often causes him to get into trouble. Although he repeatedly protests how much his sister annoys him, the two stick together in the crucial moments and support each other. His friends are Lanny Onasis (Christian Copelin) and Melina Bianco ( Carly Schroeder ).
Joanne "Jo" McGuire
Jo ( Hallie Todd ) is married to Sam Mc Guire and is the mother of Lizzie and Matt. She is very attentive and is often the first to recognize when one of her children has a problem or something wrong. Although she always means well, she often drives Lizzie crazy with her "tips for life", but is always there when she is needed. She likes to cook very much, even if her family is not very enthusiastic about her cooking skills and is very skilled in her craft.
Samuel "Sam" McGuire
Sam ( Robert Carradine ) is married to Jo Mc Guire and is the father of Lizzie and Matt. He works in an office and his favorite hobby is painting garden gnomes. Although he and Jo do not always have the same point of view when raising their children and he tends to let things slip, his children always come first and he tries to help them wherever he can. Towards the end of the series, he befriends Lizzie's substitute teacher Digby "Mr. Dig" Sellers, as they share many interests (like movies or music). He also enjoys playing football with friends Jeremy and David.

Minor characters

Ethane Craft
Ethan Craft (Clayton Snyder) is the school's most popular boy, whom Lizzie, Miranda and Kate are in love with along with many others. He looks very good, is sporty but not exactly the smartest of the school and often understands things differently than they are meant. He is very good at mini golf, enjoys skateboarding and loves spaghetti.

In the film Popstar in a roundabout way , he is the one who makes it clear to Gordo that he should stand up to his feelings towards Lizzie if he doesn't want to be just her "friend" forever.

Kate Sanders

Kate ( Ashlie Brillault ) is Lizzie's archenemy and, like Lizzie, has a crush on Ethan Craft. She used to be Lizzie's best friend, but since she got her first bra and became the most popular girl in school, she's been treating Lizzie and everyone else like bugs and making their lives difficult wherever she can. She is the captain of the cheerleaders and always accompanied by her best friend Clair Miller. During individual episodes, Kate and Lizzie overcome their differences and work together. Although Kate would never admit it, she enjoys being with Lizzie. In the film, she becomes a close ally and supports Lizzie on her Rome adventure by covering up Lizzie's disappearance in front of the teacher Miss Ungermeyer.

Clair Miller

Clair (Davida Williams) is Kate's new best friend and, like her, one of the most popular girls in school. After Kate injured her shoulder in the episode "Kate Offside", Clair throws her off the cheerleading team, makes herself captain and bullies the students even worse than Kate ever did. But after Kate is healthy again and has made her claim clear, she pulls back into the second row and everything is forgotten.

Lawrence "Larry" Tudgeman

Larry (Kyle Downes) is the typical outsider at Lizzie's school. He is portrayed as a strange freak who rarely washes himself, changes clothes or eats his boogers. But apart from all of this, he is very intelligent and is even elected as Head Boy as a “true friend” (albeit rather unintentionally). In the episode "My Friend Larry" Lizzie has her first date with him and realizes that he can be very romantic, attentive and also has many different interests.

Veruca Albano

Veruca (Rachel Snow) is portrayed as a typical nerd. She is in the math club, likes to play Lord of the Dwarfs and in the second season a casual friendship develops between her, Lizzie, Miranda and Gordo. Furthermore, towards the end of the series it is indicated that Veruca and Larry feel something for each other.
Lanny Onasis
Lanny (Christian Copelin) is a friend of Matt. He never speaks, but the two have no difficulty understanding each other.

Melina Bianco

Melina ( Carly Schroeder ) is a friend of Matt and is in a class with him. She loves getting him into trouble and using him to her advantage. In the movie Pop Star in Detours , she is the one who instigates Matt to reveal Lizzie's secret to his parents and thus makes them follow her to Rome.

Coach Kelly

Coach Kelly ( Dot Jones ) is the strict but fair physical education teacher at Hillridge Junior High. She supports Lizzie in her preparation for the competition in rhythmic gymnastics and when Lizzie feels uncomfortable in the episode "Lizzie Mc Guire - A Whole Guy" because she is afraid that everyone will see her only as a "guy", she explains that Girls can be both feminine and athletic. She takes herself as an example, because she likes to do weight training, but she also dances swing and sews her own clothes.

Digby "Mr Dig" Sellers

Mr. Dig (Arvie Lowe, Jr.) is a substitute teacher at Hillridge Junior High. It often looks a bit over the top, but is very popular with the students. In the episode "Dinner with Mr. Dig", Lizzie's father befriends him and by chance Matt brings his class teacher Miss Chapman with him to dinner and the two discover that they have known each other since their youth and leave the house together.

Mr. Escobar

Mr. Escobar (Daniel R. Escobar) is the theater and choir director at Hillridge Junior High. He also oversees detention and often theatrically throws his blue scarf around his neck.

Theme song

While KiKA broadcast the series, a title song sung in German was used in the intro. Disney Channel and Super RTL , on the other hand, use the original song We'll Figure It Out by Angie Jaree.
