Story of Andi (Original title: Andi Mack ) is an American youth - dramedy of the Walt Disney Company , which is produced by Horizon Productions. The idea for the series comes from Terri Minsky, who was previously responsible for the successful Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire . It premiered on April 7, 2017 on Disney Channel in the United States. The German-language first broadcast took place on September 3, 2017 on the free TV station Disney Channel . The series ended on July 26, 2019.
Story of Andi is the first Disney Channel series with a homosexual main character (Cyrus Goodman).
In May 2017, the Disney Channel extended the series for a second season, which premiered in the United States on October 27, 2017. In February 2018, the series was extended by a third season, which has been broadcast in the USA since October 8, 2018.
On April 24, 2019 it was announced that Andi Mack would end after the third season. The series finale aired in the United States on July 26, 2019.

The talented and fun-loving Andi Mack has lived in a well-kept and orderly family until now. But that all changed when her big sister Rebecca “Bex” returned home shortly before her 13th birthday after a long absence. Unlike Andi, Bex's mother Celia is not exactly happy about her daughter's surprise return home, and there is a good reason for this. What very few people know is that Bex was pregnant as a teenager, and that Celia and her husband Henry "Ham" are not Andi's parents, but their grandparents, and Bex is actually Andi's mother.
After Andi was born, Bex and her mother had a violent disagreement, whereupon Bex left the baby with her parents to lead an adventurous life without major responsibility. Disappointed by her daughter's decision, Celia raised her beloved granddaughter Andi with her husband Ham. Celia built such a strong bond with Andi that a mother-daughter relationship developed from it. Her grandparents made Andi and other people believe that they were Andi's parents and that Bex was their big sister.
Now after all these years, Bex has realized what she did wrong from her point of view and regrets it. And finally Bex tells Andi the truth, which Celia tries to prevent beforehand. After the truth is spoken, not only Andi's life is upside down, but that of the whole family. With the help of her best friends Cyrus and Buffy, Andi tries to cope with the new situation and the everyday problems of being a teenager. Andi also tries to answer other questions, such as who her biological father is.
Meanwhile, Bex tries to establish a mother-daughter relationship with Andi, but this does not always have a positive effect on Andi. In addition, Bex tries to finally make peace with her mother Celia and to take on more maternal responsibility, which turns out to be more than difficult. But Celia also has to struggle with the new situation, because it is difficult for her to accept the role of grandmother and wants to prove to Bex that she is the better mother for Andi. Celia is also very skeptical about Bex, which is justified in certain questions. Meanwhile, her husband Ham always stands between his wife and daughter Bex and tries to mediate between them. All in all, the new situation is very difficult for everyone involved, but Andi realizes after a short time that sometimes it is precisely the unexpected things in life that make it so great.

Development of the series began in 2015 when Disney Channels Worldwide President Gary Marsh convinced series inventor Terri Minsky to develop a new series for the Disney Channel. Minsky developed the popular series Lizzie McGuire for the Disney Channel back in 2001 and was initially a bit reluctant to develop a new teen-oriented series. She eventually found her inspiration for the series in an article about how Jack Nicholson learned as an adult that the woman he thought was his sister for years was actually his mother.
Filming for the first season began in September 2016 and ended in December 2016. Thirteen episodes were originally produced for the first season, but only twelve were broadcast. The thirteenth episode became the first episode of the second season. The TV premiere took place on April 7th on the Disney Channel in the USA. On May 25, 2017, the Disney Channel extended the series for a second season. On February 19, 2018, Disney Channel extended the series by a third season, which has aired in the United States since October 8. The shooting of the season, which will consist of 20 episodes, ended in December 2018. From January to February 2019, filming of the third season took place.
