Just a Stevens (original title Even Stevens ) is an American sitcom that was produced by Disney Channel from 2000 to 2003 . It comprises 65 episodes in three seasons. In Germany , the first season of the series was broadcast on the children's channel, the other two seasons have not yet been published in Germany. However, the television film Die Stevens strike back (original title The Even Stevens Movie ), the conclusion of the series, was seen in 2004 on the German branch of Disney Channel.

A Stevens is considered to be the breakthrough for Shia LaBeouf , who embodies the main role and became known to a wider audience through the series (in the USA).

action

Louis Stevens lives in a suburb of Sacramento with his parents and siblings Donald and Ren . Louis is considered a black sheep because, unlike Donald and Ren, he is not particularly successful at school and often gets himself and others into trouble. In addition to the everyday school life of the two younger children, the series mainly focuses on the family's private life, which is characterized by disputes between Louis and his sister.

Characters

main characters

Louis Anthony Stevens

Louis is the youngest child in the family. He is immature for his age, rude, lazy , loud, selfish , insidious and likes to play pranks on his fellow human beings together with his best friend Alan Twitty , which is why he is often sent to detention . His behavior doesn't change much over the course of the series, although he gets older. His parents prefer his siblings because of their successes, but despite his nature they still love him and defend their son if he has done something again. Louis is usually not very attractive to the opposite sex, as he has a tendency to curse and pick his nose . Even so, he and his best friend Tawny become a couple by the end of the series. In the twelfth episode of the second season it is mentioned that his birthday is on June 27th.

Ren Stevens

Ren is the middle child and is in eighth grade. She is extremely well-bred, intelligent and perfectionist , qualities that stand in stark contrast to her brother Louis. Ren is the best in class, obsessed with good academic performance and represented in many electives, so she stands up as a candidate for every election, for example for class representative , she is also the presenter of the school's own news program , writes for the school newspaper and the yearbook and was a few Member of the cheerleading team for weeks . She is highly valued by the principal, Wexley, for her grades and dedication, for which she acts as a kind of assistant. Since Ren always tries to thwart Louis' plans, the two of them often conflict.

Donald "Donnie" Stevens

Donnie is the oldest child in the family. He is very athletic and careful about his looks. Because of his attractiveness and his athletic talent, he is a swarm of girls and has a great popularity at school, which continues even after graduation. Donnie is not particularly intelligent and does not get good grades except for sports.

Steven "Steve" Stevens

The family man Steve is a little weird, works as a lawyer and is quite successful in his profession. During his studies at Michigan State University , he played under the nickname "Stiffie" college football , he was also active there as a wrestler .

Eileen Stevens

Eileen, who comes from a Jewish family, is strict with her children, but is always understanding and helpful when they have a problem. She is a senator and started a campaign for the House of Representatives in 2002 , but this narrowly failed.

Minor characters

Alan Twitty

Alan is Louis' best friend. Alan has a similar personality to his friend, but unlike Louis, he never overdoes it when they prank together and therefore usually has to help his friend out of a tight spot. He is called Twitty by his friends. He plays baseball , basketball and guitar and is very popular with the girls.

Tawny Dean

Tawny is Louis' best friend, and at the end of the series she becomes his first boyfriend. At first Tawny is very introverted , has no friends and is considered an outsider , but this changes when she meets Louis. Tawny usually wears very dark clothes that are similar to the Gothic style, which sets them apart from their classmates, but Tawny does not care.

Thomas "Tom" Gribalski

Tom is another friend of Louis and a nerd . Whenever Louis hatches a new plan, Tom doesn't want to know about it and tries to dissuade Louis from his plan. Therefore, he usually does not participate in Louis and Alan's pranks and eventually becomes one of their victims. When he speaks, he often uses scientific and philosophical terms. He is intelligent and is applying for a place in a performing arts school on season three but is not accepted.

Ruby Mendel

Ruby is Ren's best friend and loves spreading rumors about alleged lovers at school. In one episode it turns out that she is very enthusiastic about the boy group BBMak , whose members embody themselves in the episode. Ruby seems to come from New York as she speaks with a heavy Brooklyn accent in the Original Version.

Monique Taylor

Monique is another friend of Ren and a cheerleader. She takes her hobbies extremely seriously and speaks in the original English language with a typical southern accent.

Nelson Minkler

Nelson is a friend of Ruby's and suffers from a variety of allergies . That is why he is overly cautious when he is outside. Although he spends a lot of time with Ren and Donnie, he only spoke to Louis once. He is also fluent in French .

Bernard "Beans" Aranguren

Beans is a Stevens neighbor who comes to them uninvited, acts like he is at home and refuses to leave. A running gag is his predilection for bacon , which goes so far that he visits a bacon fast food restaurant in one episode. During the course of the series, he helps Louis and Twitty with their pranks, but mostly betrays them in the process.

Lawrence Anthony "Larry" Beale

Larry is a classmate of Ren and her greatest rival. Although he is also popular and charismatic , he shows his unpleasant and know-it-all side towards Ren . Larry is constantly trying to destroy Ren's reputation, but it always goes wrong. Sometimes he chooses Louis as a victim and is actually just jealous of Ren, but would never admit it. In the film, he also seems jealous when he watches a kiss between Ren and an actor.

Coach Terry Tugnut

Terry is the sports teacher of Louis, Donnie and Larry. While the latter are his favorite students, he treats Louis extremely severely, which is why he is often a target for his pranks. Tugnut has a pronounced appetite and, according to his own statement, once weighed over 150 kilograms. Tugnut often works as a helper for the school principal Wexley. Is Tugnut also obsessed with dodgeball , a hugely popular in the US Art dodgeball .

Conrad Wexler

Wexler is the principal of Lawrence Jr High. Ren is by far his favorite student, the two of them get on well together. Ren is his assistant, which usually means that she has to do tasks for him that are too good for himself. Ren's brother Louis, however, often drives him crazy with his behavior and pranks.

Carla and Marla

Carla and Marla adore Ren and work with her and Ruby as editors for the school newspaper. After the episode Quest for Coolness of the second season, the two no longer appear.

Robert "Bobby" Deaver

Bobby was Ren's boyfriend in Middle School and appears in seven episodes. The two broke up after Louis revealed that Bobby had cheated on her with Mandy Sanchez, her rival.

Ivan

Ivan is Larry's sidekick in the first season and a yes-man to him, but also to other popular students .

Trivia

  • When the pilot was filmed, the series was still called Spivey's Kid Brother , when Disney took over in 1997, it was renamed Even Stevens . This change is referred to in the last episode of the first season ( A Weak First Week , German title Hochgeschaukelt ). This shows scenes from the said pilot episode as flashbacks , including a banner with the words Home of Spivey and the Wild Wombats in the gym .
  • A time-lapse is used in every episode of Eben ein Stevens .
  • In the opening credits, Ren reads a television magazine , the cover of which features photos of the leading actors Shia LaBeouf and Christy Carlson Romano . In the opening credits is also on Star Wars alluded because the remote controls of Louis and Ren (as clay figures are shown) in lightsabers turn.
  • The school Louis and his siblings attend is junior high school . This goes from the seventh to the ninth grade, but the period in which the three seasons long series takes place is only two years, since Louis and Ren are in the seventh and eighth grade at the beginning of the first season, respectively, at the end of the third season however, only attend the eighth or ninth grade.
  • Shia LaBeouf and Christy Carlson Romano are the only actors to star in all of the series' 65 episodes.

Charisma

In addition to the actual broadcast from June 17, 2000 to June 2, 2003, reruns of the series were broadcast on the Disney Channel until September 4, 2006. On July 7, 2007, on the occasion of the premiere of the film Transformers , in which Shia LaBeouf plays the lead role, a Eben ein Stevens marathon was shown, which consisted of eight episodes.

WGN America acquired the rights to the Disney series Lizzie McGuire and Eben ein Stevens in 2006. There Eben ein Stevens was repeated weekly until September 2008.

The series aired on Disney XD in 2006, from 2009 it was there again until January 2010. On the Canadian offshoot of Disney XD, it ran from June 1, 2011 to December 2012.

From 2015 to 2016, Eben ein Stevens was broadcast on Freeform , along with other Disney productions from the 2000s .

The television film The Even Stevens Movie is still occasionally broadcast on the Disney Channel. When it premiered on June 13, 2003, 5.1 million viewers tuned in, making the film the most-watched program on a cable station in June 2003.
