action

The series is about the chaotic family life of the Duncans. Since both parents work, Teddy, PJ and Gabe often have to look after their little sister Charlie. The events of each episode are recorded in Teddy's video diary. She hopes to help Charlie with this in her teenage years.

characters

main characters

Jason Dolley, Bridgit Mendler and Bradley Steven Perry play PJ, Teddy and Gabe Duncan

Theodora Rebecca "Teddy" Duncan

She is Charlie's older and only sister. She is a caring, pushy, and intelligent teenager and the second oldest child, after PJ and before Gabe. She is 15 years old at the start of the series. Feeling that she won't be there when her sister Charlie grows up, she video-diaries in hopes that her advice will help Charlie in teenage life. At the end of every video, she wishes her sister: good luck, Charlie. She sometimes argues with her older brother PJ, which she is not very happy about. She is also a very good student and always wants to get the best grades. She also wants to do something good for her parents, especially by taking care of Charlie. She was in a relationship with Spencer, from whom she separated at the end of the third season. In the fourth season she gets together with Beau, but they split up again because Beau moves back to Tennessee. At the end of the fourth season, she gets back together with Spencer and goes to Yale University .

Peter John "PJ" Duncan

He is the oldest of the Duncan siblings, before Teddy, and is 17 years old at the beginning of the series. Until his 18th birthday he is officially called P izza J ohn (in German dubbing) due to a mistake by his father . In the original he is officially called Potty John until his 18th birthday and not as originally planned and assumed by PJ as Patty John like his great-grandfather (Patty is the nickname for Patrick). On his 18th birthday, the birth certificate is changed and the name is entered incorrectly again. So it is not renamed PJ, but PP (spoken like pee ). He sometimes argues with Teddy and usually gets along well with his younger brother, Gabe. PJ isn't the brightest. He has a weakness for cheerleaders and later spends time with Teddy's girlfriend Skyler. He plays in a band with his best friend Emmett. PJ is very good at cooking, which is why he goes to cookery school after dropping out of college.

Gabriel "Gabe" Duncan

He is the younger brother of Teddy and PJ and the older brother of Charlie and Toby. He is ten at the beginning of the series and is known as a troublemaker, sarcastic, and lazy person. But he can also be dutiful and determined. In addition, at the beginning of the series he is not happy about Charlie's birth because he no longer gets the attention he used to get as the youngest child. He's extremely smart and devious for his young age. Gabe tries often and quickly to get money, which he usually does better than his brother PJ.

Charlotte "Charlie" Duncan

She is the title character. At the beginning of the series, she is nine months old. She is mostly happy and rarely sad. She is very closely related to her big sister, Teddy. She also goes to kindergarten.

Amy B. Duncan, b. Blankenhooper

She is the mother of PJ, Teddy, Gabe, Charlie, Toby and the wife of Bob. She works as a nurse in a hospital. She is easy to irritate and takes every opportunity to be in the spotlight. She likes to dance and sing, but she cannot cook.

Bob William Duncan

He is the father of PJ, Teddy, Gabe, Charlie, Toby and Amy's husband. Bob owns his own company, Bob's Bugs Be Gone. He works there as an exterminator. In a later episode, PJ writes the theme song for an advertisement made by Bob. He likes to eat very much. His children often joke about him because he is overweight.

Minor characters

Toby Duncan
He is the newest and youngest member of the Duncans family. He was born in an ice cream van on the same date as Charlie during season three . Gabe came up with the idea for the name and records video diaries for Toby, modeled on his sister.
Estelle Dabney
She is the Duncan's neighbor and has a cat. Gabe often plays tricks on her. She is usually called just Mrs. Dabney.
Spencer Walsh
He is Teddy's boyfriend at times and plays on the school basketball team. But at some point she broke up with him. However, at the end of season four, they come back together.
Ivy Renee Wentz
She is Teddy's best friend and is interested in fashion and boys. She is with Emmett and Raymon "RayRay" at times.
Emmett
He is PJ's best friend. He likes Teddy and is always trying to get to her. He plays in a band with PJ. Emmett is chaotic, but later lives in a shared apartment with PJ.
Beau Landry
He's from Tennessee and is an exterminator. He works for Bob in the company. Teddy and he are temporarily a couple, but then he has to go back to Tennessee.
Lauren Dabney
She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Dabney and together with Gabe, the two split up briefly because of a misunderstanding caused by Teddy.
Skyler
She is PJ's girlfriend, but she separates from him when she moves to New York, but later the two get back together. Initially, Spencer cheated on Teddy with Skylar.
Jo Keener
Jo is a friend of Gabe's, although she often bullied or hit him at the beginning.
Jake
Jake is a good friend of Gabe's; the two of them often do illegal things.
Karen
Karen was Amy's boss at the hospital, but the two didn't get along at all. Amy later plays her a sham friendship to get an expensive present from her at her baby party. She is also the aunt of Teddy's future boyfriend, Beau.
Debbie Dooley
Debbie is a neighbor of the Duncans. Amy and Debbie often compete over small things. Amy doesn't like her very much, especially her high-pitched voice, but her baked cookies are very popular
