For You is a greatest hits album by American singer and actress Selena Gomez . It was released on November 28, 2014. For You is the last album that Gomez released on the Hollywood Records label. The following album Revival was released by Interscope Records .

Creation and publication

Already at the beginning of 2014 there were rumors about a new album by Selena Gomez. Concrete rumors about a "greatest hits album" began in summer 2014. The album was officially confirmed on October 17, 2014 by the Universal Music Group. They announced a December release date and two new songs. On October 31, without the permission of the record label, the list of titles appeared on the French edition of Amazon.com , which was withdrawn a few days later. On the part of Gomez, the album was only confirmed on November 6, 2014, when it was possible to pre-order the album.

For You includes songs from Selena Gomez's solo career, as well as some songs from her and her band Selena Gomez & the Scene . It contains all the singles Gomez has released to date, except for Hit the Lights . About the project, Gomez says: "I love all my songs so much that I decided to release this album ... It's like a collection from the last 5 years of my life, as well as all of my favorite songs I have between the ages of 15 up to the age of 22. " Tell Me Something I Don't Know was Gomez's first song to make it onto the American Billboard Hot 100 charts and the first song to be recorded for the band's debut album Kiss & Tell (2009) . Falling Down was the first single Gomez released with her band. Round & Round is the first single from A Year Without Rain , the band's second album (2010). Who Says and Love You Like a Love Song are both from the band's third album When the Sun Goes Down (2011) and are also the most successful tracks that Selena Gomez released with The Scene . Come & Get It and Slow Down are the two singles from Selena Gomez 's first solo album Stars Dance (2013). Come & Get It is also the most successful song of Selena Gomez's entire career. Naturally and A Year Without Rain were both released as a remixed version by Dave Audé. Both songs appeared on Selena Gomez & the Scene's remix album The Club Remixes (2011).

An EP version of the album was released on April 1, 2015 on the streaming platforms Spotify and Tidal. It contains four songs, including the two new songs The Heart Wants What It Wants and Do It , as well as Forget Forever (ST £ FAN Remix) and Más (Spanish version of More ).

New songs

It was announced by the Universal Music Group on October 17, 2014 that there would be two new songs on the album, which had not yet been confirmed by Selena Gomez or Hollywood Records at the time. The Heart Wants What It Wants was recorded earlier this year. In February, Selena Gomez posted a picture from the video of The Heart Wants What It Wants, entitled ... Secret project . The Heart Wants What It Wants was released on November 6th, 2014. The second new song is titled Do It . It appeared on the internet a few days before the album's release date. It got a lot of interest from the media because of its text and topics. Gomez himself compared the song to Lily Allen's releases and described the song as a "cute, little and catchy" bonus track on the album. Both songs were written by Antonina Armato and Tim James and produced by Rock Mafia. They are already known for their work with Selena Gomez and produced the songs Naturally , Love You Like a Love Song , My Dilemma and Stars Dance , among others .

The album also features previously unreleased versions of some of her songs: My Dilemma 2.0 , “Más” (the Spanish version of “More”) and a cover version of the song Bidi Bidi Bom Bom by the late Latino singer  Selena Quintanilla-Pérez . The song "My Dilemma 2.0" was originally supposed to be released as a duet with the singer Flo Rida , but in the released version the part of Flo Rida was cut out.

promotion

For You did not have any basic pre-release promotion, unlike the other albums that were heavily promoted on social networks in advance. After the release, Gomez went on a radio station tour, where she gave interviews about her new album and the first single The Heart Wants What It Wants . Selena Gomez sang The Heart Wants What It Wants live at the American Music Awards on November 23, 2014 . After the performance, The Heart Wants What It Wants rose to number 2 on the iTunes charts and by 20 places on the American Billboard Hot 100 to number 6.
