Tobias "Toby" Gad (* 1968 in Munich ) is a German music producer and songwriter . His biggest success so far was Big Girls Don't Cry ( Fergie ). He has also worked for artists such as Beyoncé ( If I Were a Boy ), Brandy , Natasha Bedingfield , Mandy Capristo , Shakira , Nick Carter , Donna Summer , Selena Gomez , Sandra , Demi Lovato ( Skyscraper ) and John Legend ( All of Me ).

biography

Childhood and first musical experiences

He was musically influenced by his parents at an early age, as both were active in the Munich music scene and among others were members of the band "The Jazz Kids". At the age of four he learned the banjo and piano .

First successes

At the age of 13, he and his brother Jens had their first successes in Munich. In 1986, when Frank Farian was looking for new talent, a friend of the brothers submitted material about their work, resulting in a seven-year relationship with Farian. Farian eventually produced the brothers' first album Q.

Commercial breakthrough

In 1990 Gad met the Mauritian singer Jacqueline Nemorin , also known as Jackie Carter. Together with Frank Farian, he produced their first album, The Creole Dance , which was released under their real name on BMG . In 1994 Gad produced their second album for EMI Europe together with Klaus Frers .

Move to New York

In December 2000 he finally moved to New York . There he had, among other things, a first success with the single Unspoken , which Gad wrote together with Madeline Stone and O. Hatch for the artist Jaci Velasquez .

Success in America

Toby Gad was among other things on the song Drop It on Me for the 2005 album Life by Ricky Martin involved.

In the third quarter of 2014 he was listed at number three of the music producers by the American music magazine Billboard , after numerous hits such as B. Fergies Big Girls Don't Cry , Demi Lovatos Skyscraper , Beyonces If I Were a Boy or John Legends All of Me .
