Monrose was a three-piece German girl group . It was put together in late 2006 as part of the fifth season of the talent show Popstars . The trio consisted of Mandy Capristo , Senna Guemmour and Bahar Kizil . The band broke up in the spring of 2011. Her biggest hits were Shame and Hot Summer .

history

Formation of the band

After the success of the pop stars bands from seasons two to four had only stopped briefly, the producers of the show tied up with the motto New angels the country needs! based on the concept of the first season, from which the No Angels emerged in autumn 2000 as the most successful German casting band to date. In a departure from the general ideas of previous seasons, only young girls were now sought for the new band. Castings were held in five German cities and 5,189 applicants took part.

The three jury members Detlef Soost , Nina Hagen and Dieter Falk selected six singers from them in numerous qualifying rounds. In November 2006, they presented themselves to the final vote of the jury and the audience in a live broadcast final show, in which the three band members were finally chosen.

A mishap at the German online mail order company Amazon.de caused speculation about the importance of the final vote. On November 17, 2006, instead of the intended placeholder, a cover of the band's first single got into the catalog of the mail-order company, which showed the band name Monrose and on which three of the six finalists (Katarzyna Zinkiewicz, Mandy Capristo and Bahar Kizil) could be seen. ProSieben then confirmed the previously kept secret name Monrose and the title of the first single, Shame , but denied that the composition of the band was already established. Rather, covers and segments for the music video have already been pre-produced for all 20 possible constellations in order to be able to market the band immediately after the finale.

Beginning (2006-2007)

Monrose, 2007

In December 2006, the debut single Shame came on the market, which was produced in cooperation with the record label Starwatch Music . Although the catchy tune quality of the song was widely praised, numerous reviews criticized the excessive alienation of Capristo's singing. The debut album Temptation followed seven days after the single . The first big gig took place at The Dome .

Before the first single Shame was able to make it into the German charts, Monrose broke a sales record: In the area of legal music downloads, since the start of the download survey in Germany, there has been no title that was downloaded more often than this one in the first week after its release . Shame's share of all singles sold from the German Top 100 in the first week of sales was also a quarter, according to Media Control .

In March 2007 the group took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Hamburg with the title Even Heaven Cries , but was defeated by the swing singer Roger Cicero . The song was also the second and last single from the debut album. The album stayed in the German Top 100 for 22 weeks.

During the subsequent Temptation tour, which took place from the end of April to the beginning of June 2007, three of the originally twenty concert dates were canceled due to poor advance booking figures, the remaining concerts were not sold out. An early failure of the group, as well as dissolution rumors made the rounds in the media. Employees of pop stars attributed this to the fact that selection would have been made purely on the basis of vocal aspects, whereas with the No Angels , for example , would have been selected based on types. After the tour ended, the band went on a festival tour and recorded their second album in Copenhagen and London at the same time.

Success with the second album Strictly Physical (2007-2008)

Monrose, 2008

In June 2007 the single Hot Summer was released. It reached number one in the German, Austrian and Swiss single charts. This makes Monrose the second pop stars band after the No Angels to record further number one hits after their debut. In Austria, Hot Summer achieved gold status in August 2007, and in September also in Germany. At the same time, an attempt was made to establish the Monrose group in these countries with a publication by Hot Summer in the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia and Italy. In June Monrose did a promotional tour of Istanbul. Hot Summer was then also released in Turkey.

In September 2007, Strictly Physical, the second single from the second album of the same name was released. While the title track reached sixth place in the single charts, the album rose to number two in the German album charts. In October, a special edition of the album was released, which includes the bonus track Say Yes . The album Strictly Physical stayed in the German Top 100 for 26 weeks. What You Don't Know followed in December 2007, the third single from the album. In March 2008, the group sang a new version of the Pro7 broadcaster's slogan We Love to Entertain You .

The third studio album I Am (2008-2009)

Monrose, 2009

In May 2008 Monrose were awarded a Comet for the single Hot Summer . In June 2008, the song Strike the Match, produced by Ryan Tedder , was the first pre-release single from the third album entitled I Am . The single rose to number 10 in the German, number 11 in the Swiss and 16 in the Austrian single charts. The album I Am was finally released in September 2008 after several postponements, followed in October by the second single Hit 'n' Run , which was able to place in the German Top 20.

In November 2008 the third single Why Not Us was released . The song reached number 27 on the German charts. In Austria he made it to number 53, but he missed entry into the Swiss charts. In May 2009 Monrose were again awarded the Comet, this time in the category Best Band .

Last studio album: Ladylike (2009-2011)

Monrose, 2010

From summer 2009 Monrose began to work on their fourth studio album. The recordings took place in Germany and New York. The first new song was All or Nothing presented in November 2009 at a fan club meeting. As a second song they presented the title Superstar DJ in February 2010 at a Douglas event. In April, This Is Me presented another song from the new album. Like a Lady was released in May, reached number 9 in the German single charts, making it the girl group's most successful single since December 2007.

In June 2010 the fourth studio album Ladylike was released. The second single was This Is Me released in August 2010 . The song entered the German single charts at number 22. In December 2010 the ballad Breathe You In was released, the third and final release from the album Ladylike . In November 2010, two days after the band's four-year anniversary, the trio announced that they would go their separate ways in the future. Previously, the record company Warner Music had spoken out against an extension of the record contract after disappointing sales of the last album Ladylike .
