LaVive was a four-piece German girl group that was put together in late 2010 for the ninth season of the talent show Popstars . It was the first pop stars group whose members were selected by the audience instead of the jury.

Band history

2010: Foundation with Popstars

Under the motto Girls forever , the casting show Popstars went into its ninth round in summer 2010. Since the format achieved the greatest success with girl groups, only young girls and women between 16 and 30 years of age were now being sought for the new band. After a casting tour through 16 German cities, during which the applicants were judged by music editors, two open castings with the pop stars jury took place in June 2010. The jury consisted of the choreographer Detlef Soost , the singer Marta Jandová and the music producer Thomas M. Stein .

After the casting, a “talent check” decided who was allowed to take part in the workshop . 20 candidates who had been cast in Duisburg or Offenbach and four candidates who were selected during an online casting took part in the talent check. 20 made it to the workshop, which - like the talent check - took place in a loft in Munich. Here the candidates were taught by the vocal coach Aino Laos and the dance trainer Dion Davis.

The subsequent “Girls-at-Work phase”, during which the 13 remaining candidates had to apply for various music jobs, took place in Nashville . In the last week of the workshop, the last eleven candidates recorded the song I Swear with songwriter Gary Baker , which was originally sung by John Michael Montgomery in 1994 . The single entered the German single charts at number 69 and stayed there for a week.

The last ten candidates then moved into the live shows in Cologne. There a band member was chosen by the audience every week. In the first live broadcast, the band name was also announced, which was also chosen by the audience through an online vote between “Panter Loop”, “Metro Chics” and “LaVive”. On December 10, 2010, the day after the last live show, LaVive released their first single, No Time for Sleeping . After just a week, the single was no longer in the Swiss charts. The album No Sleep followed on December 17, 2010.

On the evening of the last live show on December 10, 2010, the band had their first full-line appearance on TV total . In the first week after the finale, the band recorded the song A Magical World of Wonder in a German version for the soundtrack to the film Winx Club 3D - The Magical Adventure .

2011: separation

On February 19, 2011, Rensing mentioned in an interview with the regional daily newspaper Die Glocke that the contracts - which were concluded with the 10 pop stars finalists - expire in March 2011. BILD reported on March 13, 2011 that the band had split up. Sarah Rensing agreed in an interview with the record company Starwatch that there would be no second single and no further appearances were planned. Regarding future plans, Rensing stated that Julia Köster wanted to do her Abitur, Katrin Mehlberg was planning a degree and she wanted to return to her job as a beautician herself and work on a trial at the star hairdresser Udo Walz . In 2011, Ehnert released the song Don't Tell Me Lies as a download under the artist name Anucca .
