John Michael Montgomery
John Michael Montgomery (born January 20, 1965 in Danville , Kentucky ) is an American country singer. He is counted among the so-called neo-traditionalists who revived the stagnant country music in the early 1990s.
biography
As a child, John Michael played with sister Becky and brother Eddie in his parents' country band. He made his first public appearance at the age of five. After his parents divorced, he continued as a solo musician in Lexington . For several years he worked in the Austin Saloon there before he was signed by the record company Atlantic Records in 1991 .
In 1991 his first album, Life's A Dance , was recorded. During a recording session, he fell out with the producer. Even though it was late at night, Montgomery made a spontaneous call to the Atlantic boss. The producer was then changed and the album was completed without further incident. The title song reached number four on the country charts and the subsequent single I Love The Way You Love Me number one.
The remarkable success of his debut album was exceeded by the follow-up production. Kickin 'It Up hit both the country and pop charts. Three single releases reached the top of the country charts. I Swear received not only the CMA Award Single of the Year , but also the ACM Awards Single of the Year and Song of the Year . Montgomery himself received the prestigious CMA Horizon Award as the most promising country musician. In 1995 he had to undergo an operation on the vocal cord, which was free of complications. His brother Eddie, with whom he had played in his parents' band as a child, was meanwhile also successful and celebrated success as part of the duo Montgomery Gentry .
In 2000, Atlantic Records gave up producing country music, and Montgomery switched to the Warner Brothers label . A serious accident with complicated broken legs forced him to take another break. His streak of success continued with the new label, but only one single reached number one: in 2000 the duet with Alison Krauss The Little Girl became his 7th number one hit in the country charts. On October 14, 2008 his album Time Flies was released .
