I Swear is a Country - Pop -Song in 1993. The ballad was created by Frank J. Myers and Gary Baker wrote and Muscle Shoals Sound Studio produced. Country singer John Michael Montgomery was initially successful with the piece ; in Europe it became known through the US R&B group All-4-One . The title received an award at the 37th Grammy Awards in 1995 in both the “Best Country Song” and the “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals” category and was number one in the charts in numerous countries.

The text of the song is a declaration of love, which contains, among other things, passages from the loyalty vow of the church wedding in a stanza : "for better or worse, till death do us part" ( in good and bad days, until death do us part ) . The chorus contains the title line "I swear ... I'll be there" ( I swear to be there for you ).

Performers

The American country singer John Michael Montgomery released I Swear in late 1993 as a single from his second album Kickin 'It Up . The song topped the country charts and number 42 on the pop charts in early 1994 . I Swear received the CMA Single of the Year Award in 1994 and Montgomery received the CMA Horizon Award for Most Promising Country Musician. At the ACM Awards , the song received the awards "Single of the Year" and "Song of the Year". In Germany it also appeared on the KuschelRock 08 compilation in the same year .

In the same year, the R&B group All-4-One recorded a pop version produced by David Foster , which became one of the greatest number one hits in the USA (platinum), in Germany (platinum), in Austria (platinum), in Switzerland as well as several other countries (# 2 with platinum status in Great Britain).

In 2001 Smokie brought out another interpretation of the song on the album Uncovered . The American boy band B3 also recorded a version of the title. In 2004 it was released on the sampler Just The Best Vol. 47 . In 2010 the title was sung by a larger group of participants in the German talent show Popstars - Girls Forever (included on Best Of 2011 - Die Erste ) and in 2010 it reached number 69 in the German single charts with LaVive as the artist.

  • The ballad was part of the soundtrack of the film Wild X-Mas in 2005 .
  • The song can be heard in the 2010 film The Social Network , but it is not part of the soundtrack.
  • It is sung by the Minions during the wedding scene in Despicable Me 2 from 2013.
  • The episode " Cartman Finds Love" by South Park features an interpretation by Eric Theodore Cartman.
