Montgomery Gentry was an American country duo from Lexington , Kentucky . It consisted of Gerald Edward "Eddie" Montgomery (born September 30, 1963) and Troy Gentry (born April 5, 1967 - September 8, 2017), who died in a helicopter crash in Medford , New Jersey on the way to a concert came.
Band history
Eddie and his brother John Michael Montgomery performed early on with their father's country band in their native Kentucky. Troy Gentry was also a country musician at a young age and eventually joined the Montgomery brothers' band Early Tymz. The three were later together in the band Young Country before John Michael began his successful solo career.
Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry then continued as a duo, first under the name Deuce, then as Montgomery Gentry. They were signed by Columbia in the late 1990s , and their debut album Tattoos & Scars was released in 1999 . It reached the top ten on the country charts and also made it onto the US album charts . It has been sold over a million times. Six songs from it also made it into the country singles charts. In 2000, Montgomery Gentry were voted Duo of the Year by the Country Music Association (CMA), making them the only ones who were able to contest Brooks & Dunn for this title between 1992 and 2006 .
In the following years the two musicians increased their success continuously and with If You Ever Stop Loving Me they had their first country number one in 2004. This was followed by Something to Be Proud Of , Lucky Man and Back When I Knew It All . Montgomery Gentry's hits have always featured in the Billboard Hot 100 .
In 2018 Montgomery announced that it would continue to be active as a solo musician under the name of the duo and to tour under the name in the same year. The final album by both artists was released on February 2, 2018 under the name Here's to You .
